One of my friends is looking into buying and/or leasing a horse from these people. Any info (good or bad) please. The picture of the horse she has shown me looks nice enough. PM me if necessary please. Thanks!

The lady in the stable next to me loaned one from there for a while - lovely friendly chap but lets just say he didn't exactly live up to their name!! More like 'Not so safe cobs' !! V Spooky and on hacks he would spin and leg it and in the school he would nap and spin for no reason! xx

My experience of Safecobs is that if you go to see one of their horses, ask all the usual questions, and be honest with yourself and them about your capabilities, and you should be steered away from a horse if it is unsuitable for you.
My only real concern is that they have a Star rating system to guide you towards a suitable horse, 1* being suitable for the most novice/nervous rider, and yet sometimes a horse as young as a five year old will be described as a 1*, and in my opinion, a young horse should be in the hands of someone with enough experience to deal with all the little problems and hiccups that are inevitable. Also, many of the cobs are of quite a size (!) and when a youngster of that size and power decides to throw its weight about, it is going to shatter the confidence of a first time horse owner.
I have found Safecobs to be honest and helpful.
Good luck.

Thanks everyone. One of my concerns was that they are so far away from us if the horse wasn't suitable and had to go back - we're in Northumberland so it would cost my friend a fortune in transport fees. Wish there was something similar and reputable nearer here!

I just think it's incredibly expensive to me both the buying and leasing - it seems to be more of a money-making scheme whilst seeming to be presented as a welfare thing. This is just the impression I have got and could be persuaded otherwise

A lady i know and who has just bought a saddle off me for a pony she got from there went into great detail about the place.I'd heard of them before i spoke to her: she had got a little 13.3 welsh pony on loan from them for her son,the pony she had before was a little to keen out hacking so she wanting something to instill his confidence.she was that impressed she has offered to buy it (probably with a high figure attached as if she wants something she'll get it- has money!) I handled the pony and she was a sweety. It might be just a one off but she is known for being slightly hard to please and has very high standards, she was singing their praises! It might be hit and miss as with any horse place.
