As many of you may be aware; by law horses are eligilble to be ridden on the roads.
However, horses can be unpredictable and be easily frightened by fast moving traffic, loud noises and entrapment of large close objects.......which alot of "non Horsey" people are aware of.

This being the case, all horse owners/riders try to avoid riding on busy main roads. Unfortunately the surrounding roads in our local area are all now classed as "busy main roads".

No matter how visable we make ourselves when riding out or what time of day we choose to ride out, we are always putting ourselves & horses at risk of serious accidents involving other road users mainly being cars.

In the past year of being a livery at Woodlands i have witnessed 2 horse riding accidents on the nearest roads to the yard caused by the driver of the vehicles. These accidents resulted in the riders being taken to hospital on spine boards suffering head & spinal injuries.........They could of resulted with a DEATH!!!!

Being a car driver aswel as horse rider. Myself & other horse riders are fully aware of the impatience of vehical drivers when in transit...... and for those other road users who feel that they may "own" the rural roads that we choose to ride on and are easily annoyed when meeting horse(s) being ridden on the roads......Please believe me when i say.....You annoy us horse riders by driving irresponsibly & dangerously past horses as much as we annoy you by riding on the roads!!!!!!

Therefore we have decided to set up an organisation and a group on Facebook SAFEHAC Please joing this group.

on the 26/10/2008 We did a parade around the local area. I am going to post a full report with pictures in to the competions section. Please joing if you like the cause!
