Hi all - been rather a long time since we posted.

I am looking at buying a small horsebox - probably a Bloomfields 4.5T. Very interested in safety.

Was looking at the stallion/professional boxes, which have no breastbar to go over and are rear facing. My only concern is that if you got tail ended, the horse would have no breastbar to stop it flying forwards.

My other question is how much does it add to safer to have a box that you can take the horse out the back in an emergency.

Bree is not very keen on travelling, but has never jumped around or shown any inclination to go over the breastbar, just want her as safe as possible.

I have a Bloomfields Professional, and am very happy with the safety.

The horses that I have travelled have all travelled exceptionally well.

In fact, today at the farrier, a pony that was loaded to leave in someone else's box went over the breast bar and caused a lot of concern. I don't have that concern. The owners of the pony had a look at my box.

In normal travelling having no breast bar is of no consequence, as when you brake sharply in an emergency they just sit down.

I agree, if you are in a rear end shunt the horse may well be thrown into the back wall, but I think if you are that concerned about a rear end shunt you would be better with a 7.5 tonne, as they are heavier and more sturdy.

Other than that have you though of having a chain or strap, on a quick release clip, that could be put as a breast strap?

My box does have rear exit capability, with opening stallion door, and a wide back door. Again, for me, the smaller boxes are less sturdy, so if I were n an accident I would like the option of two exits.

Lovely boxes, by the way.

Thank you - it is good to hear from someone who has one.

Would love a 7.5T box, but have nowhere to keep one and it would be a challenge to turn on the yard .

The idea of a breast strap is interesting.

I would speak to Dean at Bloomfields about your concerns. I had mine very different, and he came up with some FAB engineering solutions. EG, my ramp is bigger, so if my horse has a bucking fit he is contained well even with the top doors open. I also had an offset middle partition, so Jay has a huge space, and the other side is a separate toilet/ rug/ poop scoop storage area, and the back of the spare area is a huge external tack area. I still wanted both sides acessable from the small living, so he had to design some different doors, partitions etc.

I am sure he could suggest a solution.

Yes, but they itemised each addition, in writing, so I knew where I was. EG I had a electric fan in the back as the small boxes can get a bit warm compared with big boxes, but on seeing the cost I did not have the super dooper in and out fan system (2 fans, one in, one out) but had the standard one and a couple of extra windows.

All itemised before we ordered, so we could decide what we wanted.

Just wish I had more money ;)

I looked at Bloomfields and Equihunter and the Equihunter version had breast bars fitted so I'm sure Bloomfields would be able to if you spoke to them. In the end I was being cautious about weights and strength of smaller boxes and have gone for a 6.5t which although it looks bigger isn't really any longer than the 4.5t.

Most Horses travel fine rear facing without a Brest bar .
I think it's a very safe option .
Racehorse trainers chose this layout for a reason .

Hello, is there any way you'd be happy to share some pictures of the configuration of your Professional? I am about to place an order and love the safety set up but worry where I will keep all my competition gear without a tack locker etc so would love to see your solutions!

Thanks
