Hiya, I am not sure if this is allowed but I am conducting research for a project looking at the use fo safety stirrups. It would be a huge help if anyone who gets a sec could complete my very quick survey! (Link below)
If you do not have time I would also greatly appreciate a quick answer to one of my questions, why is it that safety stirrups are so much less common in dressage? I appreciate the sport is a lot lower risk than Xc for example but is there a reason as to why people don’t just think they may as well use them anyway? Thank you so much!!

I think you might need to define what you mean by a safety stirrup? I certainly don't think they are less common in dressage which makes me think you might be talking about a very specific type of safety stirrup?

Sorry I should have been clearer! So essentially what I mean is any sort of stirrup that has a mechanism allowing the foot to be released in a fall to prevent dragging. Generally when looking at stirrups I have found those specifically designed for dressage don’t USUALLY contain a safety mechanism so anything from peacock stirrups to magnetic ones. For me I would think that having a mechanism on hand just incase something happens would be worth it. I was just wondering if having the mechanism would negatively impact a dressage stirrup! Thanks again!

Do you mean peacock irons? Or maybe the acavello type? Some call bent irons safety ones.

OP, clarification needed please.

As Shay says. What do you class as a safety stirrup?

A mechanical release that splits the stirrup would not impact the functionality of the stirrup for dressage - but you don't have to have a mechanical split to be a safety stirrup. Australian or bend leg irons are shaped to release the foot. Sprengers, bow balance and flexi or chain system stirrups will all deform at the sides to release the foot - and you see a lot of those in dressage becuase they can also help with secure placement of the leg.

Sorry OP - perhaps if you re-define your parameters and try again?
