Hi all

Well to say the build up was frantic was an understatement, have not been on here too much in recent weeks
1st dad had another heart attack, lucky for me only minor this time but still scary and frantic driving around shifts to see him
2nd Saf could not even put near hind to ground expected tendon and relieved to say it was an abcess that burst through the heel
shocked.gif
so over a week off missing fast work and combined trg

With only a week to go we decided we could just about make it but in no way would we be competitive so hurried entry to Merrist Wood for a Ele test scored 63.2 for a couple of points
grin.gif
and went to Pachesham for BSJA.
She was a cow in the 1.05 having a stop and 2 down but lacking work and her being fresh made her work before the New and she went double clear, the JO was huge so face like this only more so
grin.gif

Gatcombe loomed, found a very old tail coat and new cheap top hat, I know you don't need too but might be my only chance being over the hill
wink.gif

Dad was better and told me he was coming to stay in the lorry
shocked.gif
my lorry is basic to say the least so set off sat for the dressage arrived to 26 degrees had no idea we would have a trot up and vets inspection (bloody first timers
blush.gif
) and got our passport stamped
cool.gif
Saf was rather lit up for the trot up much to friend taking the pee
tongue.gif

Onto the test, warmed up ok! but felt on my hand the whole time, put on the tails at the last min as could already feel sweat in strange places
ooo.gif

Came out happy as finished, how pleased am I
grin.gif

Warm up

Sickly smile before going in
blush.gif

Gosh Saf has ears forward at dressage

Love the tail coat
wink.gif

Think it was the canter return, fighting me but have to love those donkey ears
laugh.gif

Happy to be finished, very very hot
blush.gif

So walked the XC and thought it was fine except for the coffin and second 1/2 coffin but planned to walk again in the morning, went off to check the scores and found I was on 60.7 with 40 peeps below us, ok loads more above but for a horse and rider who hate dressage was very pleased
grin.gif
grin.gif

Went off to find the stabling 1/2 drive away and WOW what a yard, Saf had a foaling box (cue getting broody) and settled immediately, the set up was fantastic, will be ringing to say thanks.

Saf settled dad and I walked to the local pub, mile away on footpaths, across fields, someones outdoor school and fields of cows and bullocks, food was fab as the vodka and further walk back in the dark and me holding dad up
wink.gif
smile.gif

Very restless night sleep, dad snores
mad.gif
and woke to hammering rain and 3 hrs later more hammering rain and me looking
mad.gif

Set off at 12 noon and arrived to walk the SJ which was looking slippy and deep where they had not moved fences, however the moved 1 and 5 from the 2* and new ground
smile.gif
but I was about 120th to go
blush.gif

So at this point was not going to run, Saf hates slippy going, but walked the XC again and that had held up well on the 2* and when I got back it had stopped raining so said to dad I would warm up at least and see?

At this point enter my prince charming, shame he is gay (BBs you know WP
grin.gif
)
he came to my rescue and kicked my ass and said to me Saf dares me into a fence so I should dare her, so I did
tongue.gif

I never expected to get round (Borde Hill 2 years ago had horrid time on similar going) but had WP in my head counting the pace and was clear to the last line and made up too much ground taking the last for 4, dam
smirk.gif

Fence 1, sorry blurred

4b

Middle of treble

Huge thanks to WP for all your help
grin.gif

Well said to dad I would run XC if we scored less that 16 so off we set, 1, 2, 3 simple fences,
Fence 2

4 rails to 5 hedge on left curve to 6 arc again on curve, 7 corner and then into the woods which were now very dark
ooo.gif
my first boggie fence the full coffin and yeah jumped fine, 9 chase fence
grin.gif

10 was causing probs WFP was in the lorry next door to me and came back saying how you could not see 10 b and 10 c so I came in rather backwards on a SJ stride thing the longer I could give her to see it the better, we jumped A fine and she really did need the time as it still seemed to take her by surprise but clear
grin.gif

11 log out of woods to 11 trakner 12 another hedge gallop across to another woods and 13 down hill wall log arounf corner to another dark 1/2 coffin rail steep slop to ditch
Here our CIC ended with me bottling out, sitting up thinking SH*T and Saf grinding to a halt, sometimes I need the biggest kick I have an amazing horse but she is not a machine, the moment I have doubt she does too
shocked.gif
I am so sorry Saf
crazy.gif
, I put my hand up and walked home, I had no intention of jumping that fence once my blood was not up
frown.gif

Who ever it was who had a go at Gamebird the other day please dont start now, right now I am trying to focus on the positives, goodish dressage and amazing SJ for a horse who hates the going and 1st half of the XC felt awsome
grin.gif
oh and one judge who said "a horse with talent"
Talent for what I'm not sure
tongue.gif

The drive home was long, dad did not say much, I really wanted to say hi to SJ but missed you and saw Sarnita did well, fab
grin.gif

Thanks all for reading, sorry it went on

Well done, a shame you had a problem xc, but the main thing is to focus on the things you did well and go out and give it another go on another day!

I heard on the commentary that you were going xc, but I was too far away to get anywhere to see you.

How very smart you both look
smile.gif
You know what you have to do now, go jump so many coffins and half coffins that they become the norm. I must say I am suprised you put yourself out after only 1 refusal, but you had your reasons and you didn't feel comfortable and so I think you were very shrewd. Best of luck at your next run x

Great report Saf and lovely photos. Considering all the setbacks you had in the lead up to this you did amazingly well - lots of positives and I'm sure you will wear those tails again. Glad your Dad is ok too

Sounds pretty positive to me , I saw your result and wondered what had happened so have been looking for your report.I think you look fantastic in tails you will have to wear them again and maybe we will be there as well.
Looked like Claire'sfriend from her team came 7th in her section [ I suppose it had the military in it as Adam was in it] so got her first point.
Saf looked amazing and next time....

blush.gif

Going off to lick wounds and find Saf treats for putting up with me, trouble is I'm getting old

Fab dressage, girl
cool.gif
And you were cleverer than me and managed an R not an E (I figure with an R you can always say your horse lost a shoe or your stirrup broke or something
blush.gif
). Jolly good try and if anyone has a go at you I'll come and get them!
mad.gif

Nigel is always good for kicking people up the behind at the start of the season.

Well done for all the good bits and you had done most of the XC by then so you know you are capable of it
smile.gif
Hard luck for the bad bit but it is a horrible coffin and always causes trouble, only reason it didn't cause more this year is that no 10 had got rid of a lot already
wink.gif
2 years ago it was on the 2* (a bit bigger but otherwise identical) and it caused trouble in that too!) I think it's the uphill approach followed by the steep downhill and ditch - it just takes them by surprise. I don't think you should feel too down-hearted at all, you are right to focus on the positives. And, TBH, after that build-up I think you did amazingly to get there and run at all. Think how much of it you completed, and well
smile.gif

Wish I'd seen you but I was a lot earlier.

You have so much positive to take from this event, even though it might not look as good as it felt on paper! For a first attempt I think you did great!

What's done is done, and you did bloomin well to get there with all the other stuff going on. Put it behind you and look forward to your next one, knowing what you've got to work on before then. You both look fab btw.

Sorry I missed you. Don't be too disheartened the course was causing plenty of trouble particularly in those condition. You maybe just need to believe in yourselves a bit more.

You both look fab in the pictures and really smart in the top hat and tails.

well done, I wish I was as brave as you. Just to give it a go you did amazingly.

You did the right thing retiring if you didnt feel 100%. You did well to get as far as you did and you'll be back another day to go clear and win!

My mum had a v v nasty accident eventing jumping an intermediate trekhener she didnt really want to do. Horse said 'I will if you will', my mum said 'not sure' ended up with horse half heartedly jumping it, breasting it, followed by rotational fall into ditch with horse landing on my mum. Shes OK now but it took several weeks in hospital and then months of rehabilitaion before she could ride again.

Its just not worth it so I think you did very well and dont let anyone make you feel bad for doing the sensible thing.

Good luck for your next one!!

Well done for even getting there and you and Saf both look the biz. Next time you'll fly round I'm sure as the problems are all fixable. Hope your Dad stays well.
