I've got a nice 16hh warmblood with novice BD points that I want to sell but his schooling needs some brushing up and I currently don't have decent facilities. I've never sold a horse through someone else before and don't know how this works - what would you expect to pay for schooling/sales livery and what sort of cut would you expect them to get on the sale? Any other advice, any wheezes or dodges I need to be aware of - other than obvious ones about making sure they look after the horse properly & school him appropriately?

The lady I have lessons with, has horses in to sell, she takes 10% of the sale price as commission. She charges £250 per week for full livery and she schools the horses each day, the facilities are superb and she is a GP dressage rider, she rides the horses, not the grooms.

I currently have one on sales livery and pay £140/week with a 10% commission on the sale price. YO doing the schooling but I guess the girls will do the hacking which I have no problem with. Have used the yard before to sell one and was happy hence repeat business.

One thing I would ask for are copies/receipts for any adverts placed etc. It is not the cheapest way to sell a horse but for me it is worth it, I hate showing horses to clients and dealing with the numpty phone calls.

I paid £100 a week plus 10% commission.I had to put a month upfront but as they sold him a couple of days short of that I got a refund!!Worked well for me.Horse well looked after, jumped, schooled or hacked out daily.Daily turnout. He looked happy.I could go and visit him whenever I liked.Could have gone to the selling if I had wished.Chose not to.They found him a lovely home and made a difficult decision easier for me.I could have blocked the sale if I had thought it unsuitable.Hope I don't have to use their services again but wouldn't hesitate if it was necessary.

hehe, for what you was wanting i was charging 85pw! i have an excellent bunch of refrences from horses going abroad to horses going to GB team riders... then i moved to a livery yard and i can no longer carry on till my own yard comes up..

Im seriously considering doing this with my current horse as I simply dont have the time atm due to relationship break down and house move.
Anyone have any recomendations re sales livery yards? Im in scotland but prepared to go top end of england as not too far from me.
