I am currently trying to sell my dressage horse but don't appear to be having ANY enquiries! Can anyone give me any advertising tips. I've placed an ad with H&H and it will be out on thursday, she is already on all the major sales websites - any other ideas?

Is the market just stale at the moment?

Can you put up a link to the ad, might be able to see if theres a reason why your not getting much response.

Not sure if much is selling, I had one advertised 2 weeks ago, which sold within 24 hours, and my friends horse had loads of calls and is currently on trial, think alot of horses advertised at the moment are very over priced, which is putting alot of people off

I don't know how to put a link on! but the ad reads:

Stunning, 6y/o, DWB, gelding.

Green but huge dressage potential, placed first time out;
Judges commented on his naturally elevated
and eye-catching movements.
It is easy to see that this horse has the attitude and capability to go far!
Started jumping and loves it!
No known vices and very affectionate
17.2hh but rides smaller.
Requires experienced/ competitive home.

I really struggled with the price as similar horses differ so much! I have put him up at £5450.00.

Hopefully i will get more enquiries from the H&H mag as opposed to the internet!

This may sound odd but I think he's too cheap.
People will tend to assume a young dressage horse should be 8-10k and anything less isnt that great.

This is only roughly done and needs a few alterations but I would go something along these lines

Stunning 17.2hh 6yo DWB gelding
This horse moves beautifully with expression and has the potential to go far in dressage.
Currently being trained at (elementary) at home and has been out competing where he won first time out doing (prelim).
This horse has a great temperment and combined with good trainability has the potential to go a lot further.
He would be a great serious amateurs horse and has no known vices and is easy to do.
Only for sale due to .......
Open to offers at £5450

I think that he is probably too cheap too - if he has the looks, temperament and movement you would be looking at £8,00 plus.

Some people my be put off by his size, but you should still be getting lots of enquiries.

Where is he advertised?

I'm sure you will get more responses once he comes up on Horse and Hound.

Well i have had to reduce his price because he has blemished hocks (bog spavins) - he wont make a show horse! This is why i had a problem pricing him because similar horses are at £8k + but i know i need to make an allowance for his blemish, even though he has been passed as totally sound by the vet.

I've nothing further to add; everyone has said everything I would have said. Best of luck with your selling. DVB's are very very special horses and out of all the WB's are easily my favourite.....and they do appear to hold their price far better than some of the other WB's.
