My pony has terrible dry and cracked skin at the backs of her knees. I've been treating it with pig oil through the winter but doesnt cure it and if I dont do her legs every day then it cracks really badly and bleeds. Can anyone suggest any better treatments? Someone has suggested to me that sallenders is caused by mites in the same way as mud fever and that I should ask my vet for an injection - has anyone any experience of this?

They can be caused my mites.... is worth eliminating.

Pig oil didn't work on my friends cob and is a MASSIVE NO NO on sunny days as you will burn the skin.

Do you keep the hair short in the area?

So far my friend keeps it clean and rubs sudocream/msm/E45 on it. She is about to start adding Cider Vinegar oil to his feed as someone on here said she had and it had cleared it up 100%!!!! Worth a try.
