If anyone has any experience regarding the issue below, I would be grateful to receive it. I am beginning to lose my mind with this ongoing saga!
My horse had colitis at the end of December. (Positive for salmonella at the time). He appeared to be doing well on Endofloxacin and his bloods were all normal by the 16/1/14. Having said that, he had an episode of high temps which begun on 5/1, and was characterised by very elevated temps over 40 degrees. This settled BUT a few days later his face and salivary gland blew up....on the side where the catheter had been. He stayed with slightly raised temperatures over the next couple of weeks, and his neck became huge. and very hard, esp around the catheter site. They swapped him to cobactyn but upon imaging, the vessel is now completely occluded by a clot. They have cultured some fluid from within the vein. We should get the results today. They are concerned the antibiotics are not getting to infection which might be inside the clot. They are now making noises about stripping the vein.
This is a really worrying time for me and any experience that anyone can share would be most welcome.
