Interesting - I was feeding salt over the summer when it was really hot but stopped when it cooled down. I seem to have a band where I fed it with the new growth coming through light again for one of mine. They other has 4 black feet so can't see.

I've had a forage analysis done and sodium didn't come back particularly low so I only feed as needed i.e. when they sweat but that really hot weather we had I added a spoon to their feeds.

My understanding is that the problem isn't salt in the forage being low, it's that potassium spikes when the grass flushes and displaces sodium uptake even if there is plenty in the food.

I'm fascinated that you have the same colour change going on in reverse. I'd love to know why it is happening. The horn also seems both smoother and shinier on mine. I have a picky feeder too, is a pain in the proverbial. I end up hand feeding him the rest of his breakfast before he goes out for the night.

Mine eat anything, so its not something I have to worry about. What about a splash of apple juice to sweeten it up?

I'm going to have a look at my twos feet today and see if I can see a change. My chestnut horse seems more orange to me, but I couldnt decide if I was imagining it or not
