Hi all,

my horse has a salt lick in her stable. However she is out most of the time for the summer. Today was particularly hot and when i brought her in from field she was quite lethergic. I rode her and she was fine and she got a nice hose down :) I just started thinking perhaps she's needing some extra salts n her diet as she was fairly sweaty when i took her tack off. Does anyone give table salt? and if so how much? i did this last year after a long journey in the heat (just added a teaspoon to her bucket)

suggestions welcome ;)

Mine get sweaty just standing in the paddocks here in summer. I give each a teaspoon of salt twice a day and they seem fine with that.
Kx

A teaspoon, lol, OK for minatures, I did see someone recommend lo salt and table salt mixed to act as an electrolyte if in work and sweating.
Most free running table salt is processed and has a chemical taste, I prefer sea salt or plain salt crystals if you can find food grade sacks.
