Can anyone reccommend a salt type lick which also has vitamins and minerals? And is Lami safe?

I have a 17yr old 12.2 Sect A now retired as a result of cushings. He had Lami about 3 years ago - before I had him. He was rideable until this spring. The loss of back fat arising from cushings has made it too uncomfortable for him to be ridden so we have retired him.

He is very carefully managed, to control the cushings, prevent a recurrence of Lami and also because he has chronic disgestive problems which would normally be treated with steriods but can't be because of his Cushings. This does result in the odd bought of colic.

He has 2 hours of turn out on a bare pasture daily (more if he can avoid getting caught!). One handful of spiller's happy hoof daily, a small haynet and his pergolide. He cannot be getting anything like the right amount of vits and mins.

He is addicted to his salt lick. He will go through one of those rope hanging ones in days - a salt block in a stable holder lasts longer.

Is there a salt type lick which also contains vits and mins and is safe for Lami prone cushingoids?

I probably should add that he is absolutely happy. A cheeky little monkey who still fully and entirely enjoys his life!

HI

Did you want a supplement or a lick or block??

I use Himalayan salt block which I have been hanging on the tie up ring for the past few months for my lami recovering girl, she is now on the 3rd one.

Another one which seems ok is the pink brick type mineral block from any feed merchant
they do a green one or pink or white which is salt

or this web site

supplement for salt rock salt is safe to use:)

Speak to Equimins they are VERY helpfull

Ideally a lick or block. He doesn't eat a great deal and is easily put off his food so I don't want to try a supplement unless there is no way around it.

He usually has the white salt block but for various reasons is not in his usual stable at the moment and so is relying on the himalayan blocks just now. The problem with those is that he licks through to the rope and it falls off. Within a day or so he has usually managed to either eat it or stand on it.

I'll try equimins in the morning.

My Shetland loves those Himalayan blocks too, he goes at them till they're finished. He now has a Dengie Molassess free vitamin & mineral bucket lick thingy in his stable, which he uses a bit more sensibly.
