My boys will be going out full time in the next few weeks. They currently have an evening feed which includes salt. Once they go out they will just have grass and adlib hay, no feed. I need something to put in the field which will primarily give them the salt they need. I have previously used salt blocks but they are not interested. What do you all use?

Salt licks in the shelters and a feed pan hung on one of the dividers just with loose table salt works for my guys. If it’s very hot I sometimes do a salt water bucket as well. I’ve tried the field licks and either they sit there unused for months and go manky or they pig the whole lot in 24 hours 🙈 so have up with those!

Thanks for your reply. My boys won't touch salt licks in the field but like them in their stables!! Might try loose salt, good idea.

I tie a large trug (with drainage holes drilled) onto the P&R fencing (raised).
Then pop a 10kg rockies block in it.
All horses use it, although they seem to go through phases!
