Fingers crossed he is ok.
I remember a friends horse doing this. he was sooo lame and we were very worried. He had a full leg splint put on and was booked in for x-rays the next day. Funny thing was he was so much better the next morning. Turned out he had 'sprained ' his knee and he recovered perfectely much to the relief of all of us lot who had to carry him to his stable the evening before!!!
