Sam has had an accident, vibes and hugs needed

Fingers crossed he is ok.

I remember a friends horse doing this. he was sooo lame and we were very worried. He had a full leg splint put on and was booked in for x-rays the next day. Funny thing was he was so much better the next morning. Turned out he had 'sprained ' his knee and he recovered perfectely much to the relief of all of us lot who had to carry him to his stable the evening before!!!

hope this is another one of those happy endings.

How terrible!

I am sending my utmost vibes for you and Sam

They are tough creatures though and my hope is that he comes out of it soon!

So sorry Laura I've only just seen this!
He sounds so similar to Gem with whats going on at the moment, I went to the stables and her hock was the size of my head and she couldn't weight bear. After x rays it showed it was just a bad sprain!

Will send you loads of positive vibes, let us know xxx

Only just caught up with this - keeping my fingers firmly crossed that it is nothing too serious and Sam makes a full and speedy recovery.

Thanks for all the kind words and wishes.

Got there this morning and he was reluctant to stand on it or move about the stable. He was keen to go out though and I was absolutely thrilled when he walked out a bit better than yesterday, unfortunately he then got worse the more he walked so he was quickly but back in his box.

Vet doesn't want to risk moving him so came out early this morning and basically, things aren't looking good

. His whole leg is very swollen and the injury does appear to be very specific to the front of his knee. They are bringing the x-ray machine to him first thing Monday morning (can't do it sooner as there is only one on call vet and the x-ray machine is their 'normal' one so needs a few people to move it).

Won't know for definite until the x-rays are done but based on how he is presenting it seems unlikely that it is anything else- although there is still a glimmer of hope that he has just had a terrible blow to his leg and it is soft tissue damage.

The possibility of it being an untreatable fracture was raised today but don't even want to think about it. Vet seemed positive still though- she seems to think it is more likely to be a chipped bone or hairline fracture rather than anything major as he can still weight bear and hobble about.

Asked about blood clot and the fact there is a lot of swelling from knee to shoulder- vet said they would expect very bad swelling over the whole leg where there had been severe trauma to the knee. It seems whatever it is is 100% within the knee itself.

Will have to wait and see. In the meantime he seems quite comfortable with his leg well strapped and secured. He is bright eyed and eating, he isn't allowed any pain relief because they don't want him moving around but has had some sedalin to help him chill.

I feel numb, I am absolutely besotted with this horse, my heart will break if he doesn't get through this

Can't believe this has happened.

Anyway, took a pic of him sporting his rather dramatic looking strapping and looking perky to share with you, here is the patient..

OMGG!!! I have only just caught up with this thread!! Hunny, I am sending you the biggest hugs I can muster!!! And all the healing vibes I can for the gorgeous Sam!!! He is such a soldier - just look at that gorgeous face!! "I'm alright Mum, just eating - got anything else for me maybe?" I have known several horse with similar injuries, including a mare atm!! Hers presented in much the same way and is a hairline fracture and the vets are confident that it will heal well and that her being in-foal will not hinder her. In fact they are hoping that she will be able to go out in a small paddock/nusery before she foals - not due till April. Also Sportsnight himself, fractured his knee and he made a full recovery!!

Oh honey... I am keeping my fingers crossed

Can I just say he looks even more like Grace in that picture, they even have the same rug!!! I can't believe how similar they look

I'll get one of her in her rug and PM it to you... I think they were separated at birth (plus they now both have a blue bandage on too

I am so sorry that your update isn't more cheerful, but here's hoping that by Monday the swelling will have gone down and he will be much better. As you say, hang on to the hope that he's damaged rather than broken anything, and that some rest and TLC will cure it. Thinking of you, Laura xx

Patches wore a Robert Jones bandage as well.

Look they are like a matching pair! She didn't get a jazzy colour on hers though.

What did the fluid from the tendon sheath tap reveal?

Just seen this, sending you hugs and loads of healing vibes to Sam. Our pony had a hairline fracture of a hindleg and made a full recovery. She was 9/10 lame when she first did it, only just putting her toe to the ground.

Just seen your post, very sorry you are both having such a crap time, on a more positive note if it is knee fracture etc, we had a pointer until he was sold for hacking recently that somewhere in his past really did a good job on his knee at some point in his career.

He came to us like it and it was well healed, apart from being slightly unlevel, he is tough as old boots and still very happy, active and ridden....its only his TB brain that stops him being more than a hack rather than his old knee injury so dont give up hope, at the worst if its mendable then he may end up ok but maybe do less activities....not great I know but better than being totally written off.

Wishing you luck and healing vibes and keep us updated xxxx

Really hope that there is some positive news for you and your lovely horse Sam after the x rays tomorrow. Will be thinking of you both.
