I hope I am allowed to ask this, but does anyone have any experience of having lessons with Sam Twyman? On their own horse or on his? I have met him once when he worked for Mary Wanlass but didn't get much impression of his teaching except that it seemed more down to earth than hers. Looking for a good (classical) dressage trainer in the area as some recent photos of me on my horse made me decide I needed to try harder! Horse going nicely considering the lump on her back (that's me)! :(
Years ago I took my horse on weeks clinic with Mary Wanless and was left so dispirited by it I nearly gave up riding, she was very rude about me and supposedly 'deeply unhappy' horse (who was the only one NOT misbehaving) so I suppose I want to know if Sam is encouraging/tactful. Of course I need criticism to improve but I'd rather not be totally rubbished!!

Any experiences?
Thanks :)

I have lessons with Sam on his horses and hoping to get my horse to him soon. They have really helped me I have noticed a big difference in my own horse because my position is so much better. He explains things really well and I always feel I have learnt alot.

Do it. You absolutely, definitely will not feel dispirited. He works you hard (!) but is very down to earth and clear and really focuses on how getting you right will get the horse going right...

He's the best coach I've known. Is in no way critical and will enjoy helping you. Agree with philamena. I'd been taught by traditional coaches for a number of years (too long, I hasten to add) and found I got more out of lessons from him than anyone else. Shame he moved out of my area but do regularly make the journey up to his Worcestershire base.
