Same litter 2 puppies?

It seems to be quite hit or miss as to whether it will work or not. I’ve certainly known of full littermates who’ve posed no problems at all to their owners.

But, as MM has said, I too am surprised that the breeder offered you a second pup. I know when we got our dog I wanted to get two, but the breeder said no. I was offered the pick of any further litter the following year though.

Probably because the breeder wanted to get rid.☹️

As I said in the other thread, I've had two GSD littermates, who were apart and then together again. Got one at six months and the other at 9 or 12 months can't remember, they were living in different households.
Hugely bonded to each other, nothing to do with protecting their territory or me, I will never do it again.

I think it depends on your expectations.
Some people like having litter mates as they entertain each other so you need to put less into it. Yes you end up with a less well trained dog but not everyone minds having to walk their dogs on leads (for instance).
Or people get litter mates and put 3 x the work into it and end up with nice well trained dogs.
So, if you want a well trained dog for not too much slog don't do it!

You obviously never saw my father walking 5 Labs, at heel, no leads (except in his pocket) through the village, across a number of roads until they reached the woods, where they were allowed to 'roam' more freely, so long as they were still within sight, or unless another person/dog appeared.. The only time those dogs were walked separately was when a bitch was in season and then the dogs were walked without bitches and vice versa. The pups were trained alongside the older dogs and expected to behave, so they did.

No. You are doing your father an injustice. Our expectations of animals means nothing to them.

I don’t think it’s that much work to achieve well trained dogs just because they’re litter mates. Ours learned from each other, Zak being brighter and thinks more than Bear. Bear is more determined and doesn’t give up so easily. They’re a fabulous tag team!

We’re consistent with them, we’re often told how incredible they are when they’re given silent signals and obey then return without deviating. It’s purely because we train every time we go out. Some people might consider that a ‘slog’, it’s just the new normal for us.

We used to just let the others wander round, they were rarely out of sight, very social well behaved boys. Can’t do that now as Zak needs a job. Big downside is that I get far less exercise, upside is that it suits the dogs and takes far less time than loading them up to go to the woods.

I think you underestimate yourself!
