Usually in the summer I turn out 24/7. I actually find it more work as I poo pick twice a day when they are out all the time. We never have a lot of grass either. Wondering this year whether to bring them in late evening to save a bit of grass. Does anyone not turn out 24/7 even if you have the option to do so?

Yep, mine come in every day, all year round.

They come in between 7-8am and go back out any time from 2-7pm, depending on weather, ground, flies, my social life!

All very happy, they sleep a lot when they come in.
It makes it easy to have clean horses for farrier etc.
They are in for me to ride and train in daylight!
Stables are cleaner as I skip out through the day.
They don't lose a day of turn out if we go competing or out in the horsebox.
They tend to get 16hrs out /day, so healthier set up in my mind.

Yep, mine stay in their routine of in overnight and out during the day all year, apart from if it gets very hot, at which point I will switch them over to being out overnight and in during the day to get some respite from the heat as the field doesn't have any natural shelter. One of mine is a poor doer and needs hard food year round, so easiest to keep bringing in. I also find it easier to keep their feet in good nick if they aren't out on hard dry ground all the time.

Out 24/7 would be ideal if I had access to land with natural shelter, more space, more grass - but I don't. The trade off I accept is that by not overgrazing the field during the summer, it remains good enough for daily turnout all the way through the winter.

Mine are in at night and out during the day during the winter months and then swap over to being out at night and in during the day during the summer months. I am hoping to swap them over to being out at night once the night temperatures warm up consistently.

This is exactly what I do. I don’t have enough grass for them to be out on it 24/7, and if I let them graze it bare in the summer it would be full of weeds and too muddy in the winter. And I have all weather turnout attached to stables so they aren’t ever shut in, which helps. I prefer mucking out to poo picking. Poo picking too much means I cannot put my socks on in the morning.
