Hi, i posted on here a while ago after experiencing my first foal being stillborn.
Anyhow, although i'll always remember that day i find myself considering trying again next year.
The question is, should i try the same stallion again or should i look elsewhere.
I know i've got some time to consider this, but any feedback would be appreciated.

If you were happy with your choice of stallion before then go for him again.

It was probably 99.99% just sheer rotten bad luck that your foal was stillborn and nothing at all to do with the stallion (it could have been the mare if you want to think like that) Did you have an autopsy to find out the reasons?

A mare of mine had stillborn twins, she is in foal to the same stallion for 2010, his other foals all hit the ground alive and kicking, it wouldn't have occurred to me to think about using a different stallion. Just an unfortunate difficult foaling, one of those things that happens if you breed.

Without knowing all the circumstances and if you didnt have the foal checked to find out if there was an obvious cause of it being stillborn I would suggest that if I was going to put the mare in foal again I would use a different stallion for no other reason than should you be so incredibly unlucky to have it happen again, you will not think "if only I had tried another stallion"

Enfys situation is different to yours as twins are often stillborn due to he very fact that there just is not enough room in the uterus for two foals to get to maturity for foaling.

I didn't get a PM done as i thought no point. Sack wasn't broken apart from the head as it was born. Foal never took a breath. Mare is 12.2 and i put her to a 13.2. Perhaps too big?? Maybe i ought to try a smaller stallion.............just pondering!!
