Samsung Superleague - Round 3

well i suppose it comes back to GF's point from what you say that these horses (and riders) just are not seeing the big continental tracks that they need to and therefore backing off a bit.

Will be interesting to hear whats happened with Arko as it does seem to have fallen apart after such a promising start to his comeback. I do agree though was somewhat surprised to see him in the team list as he has only been to what 3 international shows since his return to competition.

I can understand the argument for the lesser experienced combinations but John, Michael and Nick have been competing at the highest level for decades and have horses to compete with the best, and yet we regularly see them picking up time faults.....I just wonder why

At least our Juniors did better...finishing 2nd in France in a strong field

Can't really blame the weather as everyone had to jump it and it was the same there last year and Arko went on to win the GP.

Justa question because arko was ELim in the first round is he ELIM in the second or was he eliminated again?

Wonder why pepermill didnt jump?

OMG! Hope this isn't the start of his stopping.

O right didnt realise!
None of the horses except peppermill seemed to jump well mondriannnw ith 9 faults each round corlato worse

I was told Nick fell off, but that might be just rumour. It doesn't help that Mondriaan didn't exactly sparkle, judging by his scores, and Corlato can't have been the same horse as in Rome. After all, they were a virtual three-man team there, too, after Robert Smith's horse had big scores.

Looking at the scores for the riders in the other teams, they were mostly clear or four, so we can't even say it was a horrible course.

Oh dear. At keast judging by the form so far, they should win the next one

Oh dear, seems like British SJ is not doing very well at the top level. There needs to be some serious improvement as at this rate we are not going to qualify for the olympics again.

I have also noticed that we seem to get a lot of time faults at the big shows. It seems that we need to sort out our top level SJ's and maybe give some of the younger riders a chance and not rely (sp) on Nick, John and Michael all the time

Well, unfortunately, until some better riders appear, with some better horses, we will have to rely on M, J and N

Without Michael and John we would probably have been last in Rome too. I think I would prefer to keep them if possible. They are both legends and at the moment we can't do it without them.
Who would you suggest replacing them with (remembering that their horses have to jump a course up to 1.60m twice?)

It does look as though Arko has lost his confidence under pressure though. He had a painful injury before, so maybe he's remembering that.

Looks like Nick did have a fall...

From the SuperLeague website:

"It was at the wall at fence 11 that Skelton first came to grief however, Arko slamming on the brakes and sending his rider to the ground when British pathfinders. The stallion's return to the top-class competition has been much-anticipated following a long break, but despite a promising performance in last Sunday's Grand Prix in Rome he did not seem to find the experience entirely to his liking. Nine faults from Funnell and eight from Stockdale was counter-balanced by just a single time penalty for Whitaker and his Rome Grand Prix winner Peppermill, but with a total of 18 the British were on level-pegging with the French..."

Britain are now in 5th place overall.

Interesting...Looks like yesterdays course must have just been too much too soon for Arko - He's just come 2nd in the 1.45m with a double clear, but was leading the class until the last rider. Looks like we are in need of some bigger classes to prepare these horses for the big super league tracks.

seems yesterday must have been too much. as said he has gone double clear and 2nd this morning.

other than yesterday's distaster Nick seems to be having a good show. Concas is doing well and has just won the Table A, and in three classes has only picked up one fault that being another dreaded time fault and was second yesterday as well!
