:( sand colic wot to do for the best

ok so while you was all posting last night i was rallying the troops to get people to help. wasnt expecting all good comments i loged on to find out what other people had had done treatment wise to help theres and if anyone knew more about it.

i couldnt go down as im not going to drag kids out of bed every hour and let them freeze to death, as they are my main responsibility. my friends went and checked on her every hour and half to make sure she was ok or not and i went down as soon as i could this morning.

wasnt easy for me to leave her last night but i cant leave my kids alone and no one to babysit at such short notice. you can judge me however you want for not staying with her all night but if she had gone down hill i would have had a phone call and delt with it. so while all you was bitchin saying how i shouldnt be on here and be down at the field. and on about how she shouldnt be alone at all. it aint as easy as that so dont judge me for not staying with her. and want to say thanks to friends that did go down and helped me out. appreciated lots xxx
she wasnt down there alone she had my friends checking on her through the night.

Interesting really, when my old cob had sand colic he went straight to equine hospital and had to be starved. Certainly not left with hay to eat. He had it twice, both times - starved.

tiny pony yes still here. it fell through so i stayed.
dont know y vet didnt say take her to hospital i did ask him. i think he was more bothered about his "cold fingers" than mare as it took him nearly 2 hours to get there.
 
she is fine. been told by vet to keep eye on her and feed her some bran and liquid paraffin? so it will hopefully flush the rest out. she ate this morning and drank and even had a gallop round the field chasing a rabbit. thank you for asking x
 
glad to hear she's doing better, and that you managed to get some help checking on her thro the night :)
must have been a horrible situation to be in, nighttime with no transport & kids to think of, hardly practical to drag them out of bed and into a taxi every 2 hours

im sure that you wish you could have stayed/checked on her yourself, ideally anyone would but imo you did the right thing. She'd been seen by the vet & given pain relief and surely if he was that worried he'd have arranged for horsepital, despite his doom and gloom predictions. (there was a vet at our small animal practice who was like a doomsayer, no matter what the ailment or illness he'd suck his teeth, wince and shake his head and be very pessimistic about the outcome. im sure he just did it to make his clients think he was a miracle worker when the animal recovered :p.)

The reason we "was bitchin" as you put it was because you gave every indication that you were going to leave her alone. Even when people said that was the wrong thing to do, you continued to say you couldn't do anything about it, and you didn't say you were going to get her some help.
Pleased she's come through, and I hope she stays well,

that is exactly what this vet was like. didnt want to get out of car put his hand up her bum to get poo sample and because she was moving and trying to kick him (because it was obviously not nice for her) he was tuting and saying cant you get her to stand still????!!!! erm no lol. yes i am so greatful to them for last night and lucky too as one that came down to look after her had just come back off holiday that morning. x
 
Glad to hear she is ok, i have been hoping all day that she made it through last nightm it was so cold poor thing.
It is a nightmare having kids and horses, my 7 year old recently spent almost all night at the yard with me when my horse choked, luckily she wants to be a vet when she grows up and is totally fascinated by any kind of ailment, and it was half term so we were both off!(and fish and chips in the hay barn helped!)

Glad to hear she is ok! dont worry most of us do understand your situation. I dont have kids but i can understand your predicament. Situations like this are when you find out who your true friends are
 
yes thank you all for your comments really appreciated, she is doing very well. like nothing ever happened today and yesterday when she was galloping around the fields with her little gang! once again thanks all for your comments x
