Hi, Just wanting some advice, farrier came out a week ago and would like to know if it looks okay now and just a couple of questions on sand cracks in hoofs.

I purchased a Welsh section B 2yo as a companion/project pony for my yearling horse a week and a half ago. He had little handling but within half a week I could pick all his feet up so I called the farrier out asap as he had a crack in his front toe... The farrier said it was a sand crack and he cut away (can't remember the correct work what he did) But then he just told me every other day, to keep it clean and use iodine or purple spray on the area to keep it clean.

Firstly I am wanting to know will it grow over or grow out? How does it work as I've read a little on sand cracks but some seem a lot worse than Archies as he had no nails to hold it in place or anything that serious...

Also, how long do I keep it clean? The entire time until it has completely gone or just a few weeks?

Below I will add a link to the picture of what it is like a week since farrier came, I have used Iodine over purple spray each day, just sponging it clean before hand with a wet sponge, I am just wanting to know if it looks okay for the process so far.

Any advice will be fab, thanks.

That is looking good and believe me, I've seen worse ;)

The crack won't grow over, you'll have to wait for the hoof to grow down.

Well, it looks like it's growing out nicely. Just regular trimming (to prevent the hoof from spreading and putting pressure on the toe) and time is all that's needed. Well done, you're nearly there, just a couple of months should see it just about gone.
