Do I really need a membrane between the hardcore and the sand and rubber surface?

I will have one between the subsoil and hardcore.

Yep, unless you want to spend most of your life picking stones out of the surface

Yes as above,also the membrain holds some water back and stops the sand drying out to quickly resulting in the sand turning to quick sand or running deep.
