Its the cost of keeping them in quarantine for the length of time. Plus any vet care they may require. I read somewhere that Mr Brown was adamant they could not come back as it was a waste of MOD monies......

I know - I suppose I was just pointing out that for all the bad decisions Brown might make - deciding not to spending thousands to add more homeless animals to the UK population is probably not one of them.

i think with all the crap news and dreadful killings in Afgan. and Iraq this shows there IS still a bit of humanity left in this sad world, and where would £13000 get towards the troops, its a drop in the ocean! ALSO, these animals brought light relief and cheer to the troops who caqred for them so well done to all who donated i say!!!

But I guess morale doesn't have a price on it's head, and should some people choose to do something that has a feel good factor, for the serving troops who were actually hands on with these animals, then why be churlish and knock it?

to me-if it saved these animals from staring to death/worse-definitely worth it. And let's not forget it's downright cruel to accustomise these animals to a good life and then abandon them to nothing, so I am delighted.

I know its sentimental but I am pleased they have been brought back. Quarantine is hideously expensive, but unfortunately as these poor dogs were strays it is a necessary evil. To digress what I do think is wrong is the SAR dogs who have had to go into quarantine afer spending a week or so abroad searching for earthquake victims. They never leave their handlers so surely are not a risk, and whilst in quarantine they cannot continue their training etc. Also I hate the thought of active dogs like collies in quarantine, I have seen what it can do to dogs.

I agree. There has to be a much better way of managing it.
