Does anyone know of or use this place?

I have been told about them by a friend as i am looking for second hand saddles.

I know the woman does fit if you take the horse to her (im not overly bothered about having it fitted)

If you are very brave! good luck. They admittedly do have hundreds of second hand saddles and if determined can find some real bargains but definately know what you are looking for and hope the shop is busy so you can browse without being hassled- I'm sure a couple of weeks ago there was a post recounting stories of sandon saddlery!

Ahh thought I was right. You do get a lot of strange old women in the horsey world though. Do you think it will happen to all of us?

The saddles are good value but it depend what you are looking for as they don't really have top end brands (particularly specialist) saddles second hand. I go there if I want a large choice of reasonably priced GP saddles to break in a youngster i.e loads of different fittings and < £200. You would need to experienced (looks like you would be) as there are plenty of duff saddles with creaky and crooked trees for the unsuspecting.

They usually have quite a few Stubbens...
They are just off the old A10 near Buntingford. There telephone number is 01763287247 and they will be happy to give you directions

You need to speak to Leslie who works there, ring before you go, and they will tell you they have everything to get you through the door!.

If you go PM me as it's only a mile or so from me and I'll come with you, they know me well!

Wish I had seen this 1/2 hour ago as I've just been there and would have looked for you.

Sales of Sandon is just round the corner and they have some reduced new stubbens atm, again PM me as I'm near.
Leslie doesn't work weds.

There are normally two or three stubbens, I suppose it would be useful to ring up but they have such a humungous heap of saddles and no idea as to their stock I doubt they would be very helpful or they would say they have and when you get there it is 30 years old and seen better days. Personally if I wanted a jump saddle I would probably look elsewhere as I honestly only go there if I want something I don't mind getting trashed by a 4yo! If you specifically want a stubben I would just ring around- The Barn at Royston often has some nice 2nd hand saddles in and they are really helpful and you can take and trial and they give you your money back (sandon can be difficult about this and will try and make you take something else!)

I got my saddle here, and despite the eccentric nature of the women it was fine. I would recommend going there just for the experience, its like an old fashioned tack shop circa 1950's!! and they have bits there that I've never ever seen in my life!

One of friends is addicted to the eccentricity of the place, I prefer order! however I did get a good saddle (not twisted or crooked) for my show cob.

Ah ok- hadn't been there in a couple of years, thanks for that info as won't bother to make the trip if on a saddle hunt.

There is the possibility of it being trashed by a youngster! lol

Im not looking for any specific make - just something smart enough to go to shows in but something i havnt spent a fortune on in case it gets trashed by babies!

I was in there about a month ago looking for a 16.5 inch GP saddle, possibly a 17 inch, and everything was either 17.5 or 18 inch, or tiny 15 inch or less, or dressage saddles, or just ancient and awful. Spent well over an hour just rummaging... About 10 years ago I went in one Saturday morning and came out with a super Falcon Hawk Event that had been taken in for them to sell just half an hour earlier. Luck of the draw. Lesley is the lady to speak to. Miss Dodd-Noble will sell you a book, or something you didn't know you needed, and you'll buy it just to escape! Not so much fun since Miss Travers left, they were a terrific double act
