We decided to make the effort and travel to Sands Farm on saturday for their BSJA show. Never been before and thought it would be about 1.5 hours drive for us...so a fair journey. Wasn't sure whether to take Trike either as he hadn't seen a pole for about 3 or 4 weeks now and neither of them had been out to a party since the end of November. OH persuaded me that we should take Trike but i didn't really have any expectations of him and wasn't even sure what class we'd put him in

We left the yard around 9.45am with the view of arriving by midday and hopefully jumping the Disco or 1m Am with Trike, and the 1m Am and 1.05m Open with Bo. It took us 1.75 hours to get there in the end....it's a long old way...but when we arrived they were just winding up the Disco. So, entered them both for the 1m Am and Bo for the 1.05m as planned. Warmed up in the nice spacious indoor warm-up and took Bo in when a space became available. We were a little ring rusty but jumped a decent clear...woohoo ! I swapped over to Trike and he felt good too. Jumped right at the end and he also jumped a very good clear ! Two in the JO...not something i'm overly used to...but luckily we were drawn early and late. There were about 15 in the JO and they put it up to a decent height (for Trike anyway !). I went in about 3rd on him, and he jumped an even better round the first for another clear. he even felt like he was flowing too

We weren't overly quick but i was very happy with the way he went. So, onto Bo again, and i decided that it was worth having a go on him ! He answered every question and flew round in just over 32 secs (Trike had been about 38 secs!) and we were in the placings ! When the results were announced Bo had come 3rd (less than a second behind the winner) and to my utter amazement, Trike was 5th

So, we got our entry fees back and a bit, and both the horses have now qualified for the 2008 second rounds at 1m

Bo then jumped the 1.05m Open...a 2-phase with the second half well up to 1.15m (Jump4joy wings

). We were second to go and again he flew round. He seemed to wake up when the jumps went up and although i was half asleep....didn't really know where i was going in the JO (!)...he returned a decent time of 32.7 secs. Next in was a very good local lady who obliterated my time by 4 seconds...but then things got interesting as many followed but very few were clear or faster
tongue.gif
The joys of 2-phase meant we then had to hang around until the last competitor to see if we would get a place....and as luck would have t we did....finishing 7th (and they paid 7 places luckily !)...so another entry fee back

All in all we had a fabulous day out...a very relaxed and friendly venue...and well organised too...and best of all, my horses are back on form

Thanks for reading...

What a great day - though sounds a bit long for my liking. Big turnaround from last time out, and what a little star Trike is....

Indeed !

It's amazing what difference a well-fitting saddle makes to a horse as sensitive as Bo

As for Trike....well he just continues to amaze !

Wow Rambo that was a very good day, I like Sands but is a bit of a trek for me too, how is the surface riding?
So glad Bo is back on form
grin.gif
, did you ever get to the bottom of it?

Hi Claire

Surface was breaking up a little in places (getting deep in some of the turns) but not too bad. Better than some, not as good as some others

We *think* that Bo's saddle was causing him a little bit of a problem...only over bigger fences hence he was happy to jump the 1m stuff, but got a little hesitant when they got a bit bigger. Anyways, the saddler has lifted the whole thing a bit and he seems very happy again. He's such a sensitive horse though....ground too hard...ground too soft....saddle not quite right...the slightest thing seems to knock him right off balance

I am so pleased for you and in the money both times! Glad you have solved Bo's issues which will give you a lot of confidence I guess to go on. Well done Trike as well.

What a difference from your last report.

Hi ya

Glad you found the problem, I like the sensitive sorts who tell you when things are wrong, he sounds my sort of horse in gelding form
