Saracen Super Fibre Pencils

Any one use these, I have just been recommended for weight gain, just looking for any feedback if poss?

TIA

I would not feed them to mine, they are like most compound feeds made up mainly of waste products with molasses to make it taste good and some oil which is of limited benefit in such a low %, they are fairly high in starch considering they say they are suitable for laminitics and native ponies.

You could do far better by using straights with a decent amount of linseed and ad lib hay/ haylage/ grass.

agree with above most of the ingredients are cheap fillers out of the list I would only want my horse eating the beet the soya and the vit and mins, so I would buy a bag of unmolassed sugar beet equi beet is about £8 one dry heaped scoop will make you a bucket of soaked beet so the bag lasts ages, a bag of micronised linseed is about £19 for one horse it will last month's and in my opinion better than soya oil, the vits and mins you can choose which to buy there are loads to choose from that will probably suit your needs better, as to feed the right amount you will probably go through a bag of those pencils in a week and your horse is being fed a lot of stuff it actually doesn't need.

Just to add they are selling them as suitable for good doers, laminitics and horses in light work or resting so they are unlikely to help with something needing to gain weight unless fed in high quantities which is not ideal for the horse or your pocket!!

I used to feed them aswell as Releve for weight gain and combination of both worked. My horse is very fussy and went off them after eating both for over a year.

Last year he lost quite a bit of weight after being diagnosed with cushings Nov 15 didn't want his feed.

He had been on cushcare but he wasn't putting weight on even at RDA, he stopped eating it after having manky bags which were nearly green

I then had to find something quick as he was losing weight and not eating much hay. I tried some of my friends Topspec Fibre Plus cubes, I fed him 5 feeds a day of a stubbs scoop in each feed as he will not eat more in each feed with their Senior Lite Balancer, if I hadn't had the weight gain required they said I could use the normal Senior balancer. He gained weight in 4 weeks then the desired weight approx a month later.

They will send you samples, my problem was he won't eat any chop feed
