I think my 3 year old girl has a sarcoid near her eye, She is currently on Thuja cream and pills not really working so I'm considering adding one of the above to her feed, not sure which one though? And should I continue with the Thuja?

She wasn't sure but more than likely it is it, and gave me an opportunity to send photos over the Liverpool, but after researching other avenues I don't want to use the creams or injections. The YO also thinks it is :(

I would get the photos sent to liverpool, they do know what they are talking about and will more than likely give you various options- although they will also be a bit limited by its location.

and no, I would not try a supplement first.

Totally agree.....from all the research I did ( extensive!) any results from supplements were probably coincidental and the sarcoid had run its course anyway. You can spend a fortune on supplements that aren't covered by insurance whereas vet/Liverpool is. Please don't mess with a sarcoid in such a sensitive area. x

No I would not try other remedies first. Given its location is right next to the eye you need to get this treated by liverpool ASAP. It is more than likely they will recommend the BCG injections.
My mare had this treatment for her eye and it completely got rid of the sarcoid. I have had 3 horses with sarcoids and 1 current with around 20 of them. I use different methods of treatment for them but she has had full veterinary treatment.
Do NOT mess around with it. Get it seen to by a vet straight away. It doesn't bare thinking about if it is left too long to deal with.

Would you not try a supplement 1st?

No. Get it treated properly first time to give yourself the best chance of sorting it out. Eyes are delicate - did your vet give you the Thuja cream, or have you decided to use that yourself? I wouldn't put anything near to my horse's eye that wasn't given to me by my vet. Eyes are too precious to risk getting it wrong.

I would not supplement for sarcoids. Send the photos to Liverpool. Mine developed a sarcoid about a month after I bought him. Photos sent to Lpool, got a protocol a couple of weeks later and treated it. Quick and easy to do. Horse was barely even sore on it, it scabbed up and dropped off. 9 months down the line and my vet is really pleased with it.

Personally seeing all the sarcoid posts that have come and gone i would give the toothpaste a go first as by far and away the cheapest option, i would be relucant to the liverpool treatment so close to the eye but whilst you are waiting for a fiver i would try toothpaste!

I would be very very surprised if liverpool treatment was recommended on such an area, but a suitable effective alternative will be. I don't understand the reluctance to at least get photos sent off for an opinion by the experts. - Having recently sent photos of a suspected carcinoma area they were very quick to confirm and make treatment suggestions.

I'm afraid I do believe those that have come and gone via the use of thuja/crest etc would likely have resolved themselves also.

^^This and a supplement. The supplement is a good thing imo to start whatever route you go. Many swear by a longer term supplement and I think as with a joint supplement at worst it will do nothing.

Looks like a sarcoid to me, personally I would go through insurance and go to liverpool, they will not put the cream around the eye but are likely to recommend BCG injections. If you catch it small and when there is only one there is less of a chance of returning.
Good luck

Friend of mine has one who had a sarcoid by his eye, was treated with a new laser treatment. In fact, I know two people who've had that treatment. Both have been successful and no damage to the horse's eyes. Expensive though.

Bazooka every time. I had one near the eye on a gelding the size of a penny and got rid of it. Vet wanted depleted uranium needles at £1000 plus and it never came back but do them early when they are small. Knottingbelt would hate me

My horse had a much larger sarcoid just above his eye, and on my vet's advice I used Sarc-off, a bloodroot ointment. It cleared up, but reoccurred 2 years later. I re-applied, and it hasn't returned 4 years later. My understanding is that she recommended it rather than going down the Liverpool treatment route because of the proximity to the eye.

I was at a talk a couple of days ago that Pro Knottenbelt held. It was really informative and if it was me. I would send pics of to liverpool for him to have a look at and see what he says. If they are treated early enough with the correct treatment the best chance you have of getting rid of it. I would have thought one near the eye would be treated with BCG injections or lazer. As its too sensitive an area for the cream.

Had laser treatment on a nodular sarcoid on our mare was very neat healed well and only a tiny scar now. Having had other horses with different types of sarcoids used Indian mud from vets and Liverpool Cream plus tried all the herbal alternatives and would go for laser if the sarcoid was suitable to laser every time now. The creams make such a mess and take a long time to heal afterwards. Others may disagree and a vets advice is always best.

One of my horses had a sarcoid at the other end of the eye but about same proximity and size, liverpool will probably say the radiation option, it looks too small for bcg injection, the radiation option is very expensive so i went with efudix cream which is a human skin cancer cream, it did the trick but left a small scar

My vet had said leave it and keep and eye on it for the time being, I don't like the idea of the BGC injections which she think would be the only option based where it is. I have started to use Sarc-ex in her feed for nearly a week now and it has made an improvement already. I am taking regular photos so I can compare any changes.
