Apologies for posting in here too but I know you sometimes get a better result in here...

Tills has had a small sarcoid on her midline on her girth for around 2 years. It was just a small lump (like a pea under the skin) and vet and instructor had always said to leave it well alone and just to keep and eye on it.

Over the last 4 months or so it has got bigger and is now rubbing quite badly as it sits right under the girth - I suspect, as does instructor, that being backed and wearing a girth has induced this. Instructor said, never-the-less to leave it alone as it wasn't bothering T so I did - its a wart like lump and now the size of a small marble. Before I went away I'd been using camrosa on it (spoke to vet and he said it would do no harm to try it for a month), especially as the flies were all over it and it seemed to keep them away. Have had no results with this so have stopped using it 2 weeks ago before I went away.

Since Ive got back Ive noticed it is clearly quite sore as for the first time T shows discomfort if I put pressure on it. So I have decided that I'll stick to bareback riding only (yes, I am mad but hopefully it will improve my seat and balance if nothing else) and will phone the vet after lunch for some advice.

My question is what treatments are available and what is the expected cost of these so I can decide whether to use my student loan (has been sat in my bank account for 3 years doing nothing!) or whether it is likely to be an insurance claim??

Any other suggestions appreciated...

Thanks

Is it actually a lump still, could you put a ring round it?
If so, it will cost you next to nothing to treat.
If not, the liverpool cream costs £50, then whatever your vet will charge.
I would advise to get it sorted sooner rather than later

Yes, still a lump - best way to describe it is that its like the top cm of someones thumb hanging off the skin, just warty (and slightly vascular) in appearance.

Would it be worth trying to tie it off first?

I take it the liverpool cream is fairly not invasive (I automatically assumed it would be cut out) how long does it take to have an effect and what is the recovery time like?

Thanks, will try that first - never occured to me to try that as its only been the last few months that its been big enough to tie off!

See vet for my reply!!

Horse we're interested in has a couple of suspected sarcoids - found during vetting. They are small and the vet doesn't seem overly concerned about them - due I suspect to their unpredictable nature - they are underneath not on girth line or face. We like the horse but should we proceed? Now that they have been discovered by the vet they will not be covered by insurance. I would be grateful for any opinions please.

I used Camrosa successfully on a sarcoid and I've seen copper sulphate used on a bleeding sarcoid (although it did seem to take ages for the wound to heal once the actual sarcoid had shrivelled away). Having seen Vici's pics of her horse's sarcoid dropping off (EEEEEEEEEEEW!

) Liverpool cream also seems VERY effective.

Hi,Our pony had sarcoid on his bum which kept breaking out and bleeding , the vet told me to take a photo and send it to him which got sent off to Liverpool uni to an expert on them,he advised a pot of cream called Blood Root Ointment which cost about £12 it had to be smeared on everyday for about six weeks and on the last day as I was putting it on the whole sarcoid just fell off!! . The fur has grown over the patch and, fingers crossed no sign of it regrowing
