sarcoid help please

hi all, some advice required on what i suspect is a sarcoid on my 3yro's sheath.
first spotted autumn 2007 when it was the size of a 20p and fairly flat. now the size of a 50p and more pronounced but the top is still flat.

having done a lot of internet trawling i can see there is no 'cure' as such but also read it is linked to a weak immune system.

last week i bought him some Equimmune from Hilton Herbs and also some cream from them which contains Thuja and some other healing herbs which i have read can help.

he has had 5 days of eating his supplement and his cream has gone on for 4 days now. yesterday there was a small gap in the middle of his sarcoid and today some more of it was peeling off.

quation is, is it good or bad that it is changing?

from what i have heard/read most sarcoids seem to get worse before they get better with Liverpool cream etc so could it be that this is what is happening with his? or am i causing bad changes?
obviously i will keep monitoring it but it doesn't seem angry- it isn't sore and isn't weepy or bleeding so can i assume i am doing good?

guess i am just looking for some reassurance about this as it is the first sarcoid i have dealt with!

Hmm.. Have you had a vet look at it?

There are no hard and fast rules with sarcoids, they are all different really.
When you say a small gap do you mean it is healing or it has got worse?

Sometimes sarcoids can get better with natural methods or creams but when there are lots of ways to treat a thing it is always a sure fire indication that there is no one cure.

Keep an eye on it, but be careful. It is very easy to make a sarcoid much worse. As this one is growing and is on his sheath I would have a chat to your vet.
 
My daughters pony has 2 small sarcoids, the vet wanted to go down the liverpool cream route but i thourght id have a go at a natural treatment 1st, was concerned about liverpool cream.

Anyway been using the thuja cream since mid jan and both have shrunk to less than half the size they were. Also got some thuja tabs few weeks ago and noticed a diff after about 5 days.

The cream seems to create a skin/scab which after 2 or so days i wash off with wet cotton wool, apply more cream each day and 2 days later skin/scab comes off again. Each time this happens its slightly smaller. I have been amazed with the results so far. There is no bleeding and my only concern is that it dosnt seem to have done as much in the last week or so, so im not sure if its going to get rid of them completly. However if they dont get any bigger or cause any problems i will just leave them be.

The other worry is that i have heard that the more treatments you try the less succesfull future treatments may be, but i dont know how true this is. The other thing to be aware of is that they are all different and what works for one horse may not work for another.

Hard to tell. PF had a sarcoid on her udder that didn't change for AGES. When she got pregnant it started to grow, and I decided to try Camrosa as I'd had good results with it on another horse. I live in Argentina, so Liverpool cream/ bloodroot ointment aren't a realistic option. Anyhow, the sarcoid just got bigger so I stopped using the cream... the sarcoid continued to grow, so I got a vet to look at it about cutting it off. She said it was on a big fat vein, plus PF was still preggers, so we should leave it alone... ANYway, eventually it just burst and all the insides came out and it's now scarred over, but virtually invisible.

Certainly could be what's happening but sarcoids are sooo unpredictable. I've had 2 horses, 2 sarcoids and both disappeared eventually so I guess I've been lucky.
 
the small gap was were the top layer had peeled off- since then a little bit more has peeled off at the top of it.

there is also a larger part which is now hanging off but obviously i don't want to yank it and make it sore.

the bits which are falling off are not very deep, it is like a skin peel almost when you are sunburnt if that makes sense?

the underneath that it is exposing is a pale yellow mostly and still quite hard.

vet has not looked at is as it has never caused any problems and really only started to grow about 6 weeks ago (not much, just noticeable to my paranoid eye!)

i have also bought some thuja tablets and am waiting for them to arrive.
 
I have had 2 horses with sarcoids and one of them became literally covered in them. I have tried every treatment available and came to the conclusion that each horse/sarcoid can react differently and there is no wonder drug. For him surgical removal was the most successful method and that included several on his sheath. The liverpool cream made no difference to him but I know it can have really good results and Derek Knottenbelt ( Liverpool) is a leading expert in this field. One other thing to think about which is something he mentioned in a lecture I went to is that sarcoids do seem to have a pattern of growth during the year. The shorter hours of winter can often see them grow significantly at this time of year before ulcerating. I wonder if this sometimes skews the results of treatments? With my second horse one sarcoid was rubber ringed, 2 years later there are now 20 where there was one. I will treat each one as it becomes a problem. Good luck. There are some really good results out there and some positive endings.
 
I had a horse with a sarcoid and was told to leave alone unless I felt it needed looking at. Last summer it was apparent it had become quite sore it looked raw and the flys were bothering him. It had grown in size and was quite pronounced. The vet was able to band mine for very little cost (about 2 quid for the band and call out charge but I had their teeth done at the same time) and it dropped off a few days later and so far there has been no recurrance. I would certainly just have a chat with your vet or if he comes to do other work just mention it to him. I do believe the liverpool method is quite a costly thing and I am all for natural where possible.x
 
My horse has a sarcoid, we are having it removed as thats what we and vet think will be best, we also got the choice of the liverpool cream but I don't like the idea of it. We are taking her over to the clinic (we are lucky that they have one

) which isn't far away and they are "freezing" it off or something (don't no the full details yet). Vet has told us to leave it well alone in the meantime!

My friends mare had a sarcoid, it was quite a nasty one. They went down the liverpool cream route and I thought it was quite nasty! Caused her a bit of pain and was just horrible. It got rid of it though so I guess it did the trick! She hasn't had another since.
 
a larger chunk has come off yesterday from the middle and it still looks ok to me (apart from disintergrating!).
i haven't got close up experience with sarcoids but it isn't causing him any pain and is not inflamed or oozing anything etc so i think i will keep the cream on for now and monitor it closely.

i will try and post before and after pictures this weekend as i have a picture of it before i started the cream and supplement.
 
Can someone give me some info on the Thuja treatment. What dose of the tablets and for how long to give them, and how often to apply the cream? Thanks.
