Hi I was just wondering if anyone had any advice. Noticed yesterday large lump on horses near fore, in front of his arm pit (more on his leg than in his arm pit) HG suggested it could be a sarcoid, but then changed her mind. It is about the size of a ping pong ball and must have come up quickly, and has a small scab on top. I am now convinced it is a sarcoid after researching. I want to give it a few days before getting the vet to see if it goes down. Does it sound like a sarcoid and has anyone had experience treating ones of this type?

Thanks!

it sounds more like any injury to have come up that size so quickly, sarcoids are usually slow growing initially and look like warts, a swollen area with a scab suggests a thorn or some thing similar has caused a small haematoma under the scabby area. I would gently wash with some salt water and see if a couple of days treating it as a wound helps, if it swells up a more, haematomas can get very big, get your vet anyway to treat and advise.

There is a type of nodular sarcoid that comes up in the armpit area, it has normal skin/coat. my horses has recently had one banded, it took six weeks to go from a frozen pea size to a very large marble. But if yours has a scab on it would suggest it is a fly bite or foreign body that has possibly got slightly infected, i would keep a check on it but it sounds unlikely to be a sarcoid.

Thanks for the replies, after having a couple of people look at it on the yard look at it we think it must be a wound. Seems to have gone down slightly today too. Thanks again, panic over!
