Any ideas what this might be? Deff wasn't there Friday and pretty sure not there yesterday (lives out and is filthy but not brushed everyday!) top was scabby and bled a little when they were washed off but doesn't bother him to have it touched/cleaned/poked about. Will be calling vet tomorrow but after suggestions in meantime. Was thinking maybe sarcoid? But do they grow that quick!?

Get your vet to send the pictures to Professor Derek Knottenbelt at Leahurst - the worlds leading expert on all things sarcoid.

It's a sarcoid .
Make sure you re careful with any wounds on the horses around him while it raw like that.
Filta bacc cream is the best fly barrier I have used.
Better safe than sorry.

Spoke to vet who agrees it sounds like a sarcoid :( he'll be coming out to confirm and discuss options in the next couple of days

Bad luck , there's lots of treatment options now .
Laser is probably what they will suggest get it done ASAP before the flys start.
Fatty gets nodular sarcoids we have a laser party most years.

Proffesor Knottenbelt still does a few days a month at Leahurst he has just over seen Laser surgery carried out by Proffesor Deborah Archer on my boy. Proffesor Knottenbelt is still the person that views all sarcoid photos sent to Leahurst to determine treatment so the best eyes will decide what treatment for your boy. I hope you get a quick diagnosis and push for a speedy treatment. Good luck.

Sadly it looks like a sarcoid.

I'm waiting for a diagnosis on my youngster from Prof K. He has already had the Liverpool cream on 3 occasions and they keep coming back, so we are hoping laser may be the way forward.

My understanding is that Prof K is based mainly in Glasgow now. I lived near Leahurst until Sept last year when I moved to Argyll, so now Glasgow is my nearest vet college. Phew!

Sarcoids are the bane of my life and a good reason for sleepless nights. My experience is to get it looked at early, and not be tempted to try home treatments. Believe me I have tried everything without success so far, but not everybody has the same problems I have had. For instance, his mother had them at 3, they were treated, and never came back.

Good luck.

Our youngster had a couple similar but not as big. Tried Liverpool cream without any joy. Vet then banded them last summer, and touch wood, they haven't returned.
