Hi all, what a day this turned out to be. Lulu had a scheduled procedure this afternoon to remove two u Dee the skin sarcoids. I’d been discussing this with my vet since April and we jointing see used to go ahead today.
One lump was on her chest, quite low down and the other in the lisk of her rear leg. All went ok although the incisions are much bigger than I thought they’d be.
But in true form for me, all the stitches have burst, blood everywhere and another call out for the vet. More sedation and local to stitch them up again. I stayed an extra hour to make sure she was awake and could eat safely.
I’m shattered now…honest the fear of it all going wrong was just like loosing Sox all over again. I feel sick.
But I left her happily munching away and not at all stressed. That’s one good thing. Nothing is ever easy is it. ?

They never appreciate our hard work and care and attention do they?

My vet once did a beautiful stitching job on a nasty pastern wound, and carefully dressed and bandaged it. The mare was still a little sleepy as I helped the vet back to the car with some of his kit. We came back and looked over the stable door to find she had removed all the dressings and torn the wound wide open. There was no way it could be stitched again. It took ages to heal and she ended up with a really ugly scar. Silly creature :/

I'm really sorry you're going through this CBL. Does your vet have any explanation as to why both wounds broke right open so quickly? It doesn't sound like the stitching was up to scratch and depending on the size of it, I might query the bill for the rework (and for shredding your nerves! ).

There's always something, isn't there?
My then 4 yr old cob had a sarcoid removed from near her lip by the vet, a simple excision withstitches which sounds very similar to your experience. She didn't, of course, have the wound covered at all because of the location. It healed well and there has been no recurrence, several years later. Fingers crossed Lulu's do as well.

My last horse had two sarcoids removed from his Sheath area and the stitches held for a day or two and then ...did not. It's possible that he did something/moved too much. He had a huge crater there. The vet had nothing to stitch to, really, so we had to leave it open. Healed just fine, but the gaping wound was a bit alarming. So glad we did it in the cooler weather, in the summer with the flies it could've been a nightmare!

Hopefully yours heals up fine too!

Little Cob had 5 sarcoids lasered approx this time last year. He lives out 24/7 and he healed extremely fast, I was very impressed...!! You'd never know now that he'd had them done :)
I hope Lulu heals up quickly ??

Thanks everyone, stitches are still in this morning. I’ve left her in today but she’ll be let out for a potter 3 times today then tomorrow I’ve a small field I can use just to keep her moving. Just want to make sure they aren’t going to burst again. Oh they do try us don’t they. ?
