I’m interested to know if anyone has managed to keep a horse sarcoid free after a treatment if so what treatment they used. I’m very upset to find out my 6 year old has a varacose one on his leg I been told that there is a good chance he will now have reoccurrence though out his life I’ve seen a really bad case of this with a friends horse where the horse got a lot worse with multiple sarcoids all over with in about 5 years. Am I just panicking or will mine end up the same

My old boy (early 20s) had sarcoids when he was younger. I didn't own him at the time and he had the Liverpool cream treatment which I think must have been fairly unpleasant. The treated sarcoids have never come back. When I bought him he did have several small nodular sarcoids and those regressed and disappeared on their own (I suspect due to drop in stress levels once I took him home). He seems to have one now on his belly - a sort of white scabby thing - I don't know how long it's been there but it doesn't seem to be bothering him. So the answer is it's not inevitable that you will have reoccurrence, at least not on any large scale.
I've seen laser treatment for a sarcoid recently and it looks a lot less painful than the cream option.

My mare developed her first sarcoid aged 6, it was removed sugically then shortly after developed an occult sarcoid which was treated with Liverpool cream. A year later she developed another occult sarcoid in a different place and a nodular sarcoid out of the original surgery site. They were both treated with Liverpool cream and she then stayed free from them for the rest of her life and was pts aged 19 from unrelated illness. Hth

My mare had one on the inside of her back leg when I bought her. Gave her thuja tablets & it dropped off. 13 years later none have grown back

With sarcoids I don't think you can ever know. Mine has one which dropped off on it's own and has subsequently grown back but I haven't taken it further as in the 3.5 years I've had her it's not caused a problem. I would look to have it removed if I found more were growing.

My horse has 2 small ones and wondering what to do about them. They are fairly small and warty and not causing him any trouble. Vet has suggested laser surgery but don't want to put him through that if not necessary. Concerned about the wounds healing afterwards. One in particular appears to be shrinking so thinking of monitoring for a few months to see if they continue to get smaller. If they get bigger or he got more would consider surgery etc.
