Would you buy a horse with a (1) small sarcoid on its face if it was reflected in his price and he did the job you wanted?

Yes as long as it didnt interfere with the bridle, they can be removed fairly easy but in my experance they tend to come back

My boy has several sarcoids in his groin area. They have been removed but always come back. They are a pain in the bum as they cause friction between his bottom.
I don't think I would be put off buying but do be aware that once they have them they are pretty prone to getting them and just make sure it won't cause problems i.e. friction with the bridle

I have seen two horse with sarcoids and decided not to buy. In my case the sarcoids were not reflected in the price and in places that may have caused issues. I spoke to my vet - he wasnt able to help much - the problem with sarcoids seems to be the unpredictability. Some can be left alone and never get any worse, some remove them by freezing or liverpool cream with great results. Other horses just get more and more - the worse case scenario would be that the horse may need to be PTS. I decided not to go there. That said if you are prepared to take a chance....

Thanks evryone for your opinions! Its good to know what people think from various perspectives. Im actually selling the horse rather than buying him- and am prepared to substantially reduce the price to reflect it as I realise buying a horse with a sarcoid is a risk.

Hi,
I bought my lad 3 years ago and at the time he had 4, One in his arm/leg pit

and 3 on the inside of his hind leg.
He was vetted and these were noted. He past his vetting but we were made aware that the sarcoids can get worse and are sometime cancerous.
He now only has one one the inside of his leg, I have to lather it with fly repellant gel in the summer otherwise they do not bother him or me.
Glad I got him though !

my boy had one under his chin and i still bought him and to be honest it wasn't reflected in his price - he has been high maintenance ever since but i wouldn't change him for the world and would him over and over again as he's very talented.
i treated it with 'liverpool' ointment and it dropped off, hopefully never to return!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of our mares had three tiny sarcoids develop under her eye last year.
It's taken at least five treatments with the Liverpool method and has cost me almost £1000.. be warned, it isn't a guaranteed cure and you may end up with a horse worth peanuts if it doesn't work..
(vet has to administer injection into the sarcoid after sedation, then hang around for twenty mins incase a bad reaction occurs every time. He then leaves an adreniline jab just incase , I'm happy with that as I carry one myself for wasp allergy!)
The price would need to be low in my opinion.

Just had one treated with the Liverpool cream, so hopefully that will be gone soon. Sunny has one on the inside of her near hind. It didnt put me off buying her because it is in a place where it doesnt effect her movement or muscle, but then again she was cheap!

I want to try camrosa on it, but cant help being abit warey. Measles-what was your horses sarcoid like? Does it work better on some knids than others? I just worry that it will make it worse and mum wont pay for her to have the liverpool cream when it is not really that serious.

Sorry, in answer to your question yes i would (and have!) buy a horse with a sarcoid if it was reflected in the price and the vet thought it looked ok.

....because I've seen what happens when an owner has veterinary advice (from the only sarcoid specialist), ignores it, uses Camrosa, then there is huge sarcoid proliferation and the horse ends up being put to sleep.
Please do not use Camrosa on Sarcoids. If you want further advice speak to your vet who can put you intouch with the Liverpool Sarcoid Service.
Also...look on the Camrosa website there is now no mention of it being used for Sarcoids now.
I'm sorry I cant say more but there are on-going legal issues surrounding the use of Camrosa on Sarcoids.

Someone recommended me using Sacrid Salve on one I thought could be forming (however I now think it is her rubbing the fur off her eye when she itches her head lol) but the website was great and I bought some before I caught her in the act so to speak.

I think the company is called Genisis and it is called Sacrid Salve... google it, it should come up!

My horse had 2 v small sarcoids, size of 5p piece...one under his chin, the other on near his sheath, they were both treated with the Liverpool treatment before i bought him, they had fallen off and hair regrown over them, so it just feels like hard skin underneath now.

Managed to get about £800 off the price and the vet said if it weren't for the sarcoids he'd be worth £1000 more.....so i was quite pleased!

I know of the risks etc, but just hope to keep his immune system boosted etc and generally keep an eye out!
