My vet told me to treat my horses sarcoidosis with Imiquimod cream twice daily for two weeks. What I don’t know, is do I scrape the scab off each time to treat it? Everything I’ve read here says to leave the scab alone. The receptionist at the clinic said to scrape the scab off. I have a call into the vet but may not hear from him until Monday, today is Saturday.

Sarcoidosis and sarcoids are two different things. It's very confusing!

It's rare, presumably why the thread has no responses. I hope you find the answer, ww.

Ah - I assumed it was US terminology for the same issue.

I know about human sarcoidosis (although not a lot) and there is no scraping off of anything!

ETA the other post by OP mentions 25 years' worth of barrel racing, so assume s/he is based in the US.

ycbm, thank you for your clarification that there is a difference between sarcoidosis and sarcoids. I was assuming they were the same thing. And yes, I am from the US; assuming things in the US makes someone a you know what, I'm not sure if that statement holds true for the UK!? LOL If anyone has any information on the differences, I am certainly interested. Thank you!

Google this and you will find several good articles.

Idiopathic systemic granulomatous disease (ISGD)

Sarcoids tend to be individual localised lumps or small scaly circles though they can clump together. Sarcoidosis seems to affect a much bigger area of skin.
