I have recently bought a mare & once getting her home I noticed 4 small hard lumps on her side. I usually wouldnt be too worried as they arent painful to touch, but they are under the saddle flap & I dont want them to get rubbed & sore. 3 of the lumps are under the skin & 1 is a bit bigger & smooth except for a scab in the middle(Im guessing from where a saddle has previously rubbed it.) It is no bigger than a 1 pence piece.
My first guess was sarcoids but as I have had no experience of these I wanted to see what anyone else thinks.
Thanks :D

The one on the left looks sarcoid ish to me - not sure about the one on the right.

Maybe a silly question, but did you not notice them when you went to try her?
Presuming seller said nothing!

Thanks for the reply.
I just presumed they were the same thing just at different stages :S But like I said have had no experience with sarcoids or lumps like that before, have actually been pretty lucky with previous horses.

No I didnt notice them when I went to try her (shows how observant I am! lol)

Could very well be. I'd probably get a vet out to check, even if they're not it will put your mind at rest. If they are they could do with treating asap, especially as they're in the saddle area.

My girl comes up in big lumps like this from horsefly bites, especially with the middle bit like your pic shows. They take about a week to 10 days to go down on her. How long has your horse had the lumps for?

bit tricky to tell tbh! I thought that there was often a coat change around the sarcoid too, but these don't seem to show that? This site is v good to get some info, don't read it and worry yourself silly though - that is what I did!! http://www.liv.ac.uk/sarcoids/appearance/index.htm I'd get the vet out to take a look as I would worry about them being uncomfortable or rubbing under the saddle, then you can put your mind at rest and sort out any treatment if it is needed.

I noticed them the day after I got her 2 weeks ago.
I didnt think of horse fly bites! After having a browse on the net it does seem possible as she really hates flys. Because of this I actually bought her a fly rug a few days after I got her.

I looked on the Liverpool website before posting on here as the ones on google search were all massive & gunky which hers are not. I think I came to the conclusion the ones under the skin were most like Nodular sarcoids.

Thanks for all your help will def get the vet out in the next few days just for piece of mind I always tend to overreact lol

I would defo get vets opinion, I had a horse who ended up with a variety of types of sarcoid but one under belly started like this but much smaller and developed/grew really fast. Fingers crossed just a bite x

You should get the vet out to check and then you will need to treat them.My horse has a Sarcoid and thats how it started. He could give you Blood Root Cream.
