Sarcoids and charming in cornwall.

My horse has a sarcoid on his face which is in an awkward place (noseband area). Many people who i have met have suggested getting it charmed. Although dont know where to start looking for somebody who would do this and does it really work?. Does anybody know a charmer in the southwest area? Or had previous history with charmers?

I would have it seen by a vet and use his recommendation as to correct treatment. You can ride without a noseband so if you are recommended a cream that burns them, then you can still ride, just take away the noseband and find a halter that doesn't touch the area.
 
Don't bother with trying charming, give your vet a ring and get it dealt with properly. Kenwyn did a good job on one of ours.
 
I had a horse with sarcoid which was charmed off, and saw another one done, are you anywhere near n devon?
 
Charmed off? CHARMED???? Pardon my cycnicism, and I do try to keep an open mind but you can't cure skin cancers with witchcraft or there would be a whole branch of veterinary medicine devoted to it. The biggest thing to know about sarcoids is that many, many, many, many, many of them AREN'T sarcoids, they just MIGHT be. So an owner "treats" it by, say rubbing it with bacon rind and burying the bacon rind at a crossroads at midnight (read this somewhere for curing warts in people) and YAY, the "sarcoid" disappears. But it wasn't a sarcoid in the first place. Please everyone, treat true sarcoids with the respect they deserve. Read Prof Knottenbelt's definitive guide on sarcoids and you'll know what you're dealing with. If you had a skin cancer would you want it charmed off? Or would you be down to the GP pronto?

I sadly had a lot of experience with sarcoids with Pickle & can understand the temptation to try anything - if someone had suggested smearing myself in strawberry jam & dancing naked down Bedford High Street on market day I would have thought about it, but really Vet is the right way to go.

If sarcoids could be "charmed off"!

Then as another poster said, there would be a whole branch of vets doing it.

Sarcoids seem to be becoming more common so why would we all go down the long and expensive vet route if they really could be "told" to go away!

Sarcoids are horrid, get some proper treatment from your vet and get them sorted. My mare is currently going through treatment for them and they are the most horrible things ever. Do your horse a favour and get the vet out and do not try putting anything on them. They are most certainly not something to be taken lightly or messed about with. In the meantime I would take off the noseband as you really don't want to be agrivating it.
