Sarcoids and homeopathy

I just thought I'd post about my experiences, in case anyone else is interested. I'm not interested in hearing from negative types telling me how pointless homeopathy is! I'm not a fantatic, but was willing to try out something non-invasive first.

Here's the scoop - my horse has just turned 3, and developed sarcoids over the winter. They're not awful - 1 small warty one between his front legs, a couple of warts on his sheath and one rather scary but benign one on his belly button - like a giant scab, with a long stalk sarcoid next to it - about 1.5cm long. He also had a big one on his willy. I spoke to Ainsworths and they sent me a combo remedy of thuja 12c and beryllium 12c, plus an equine sarcoid nosode, 30c. I've been feeding him the thuja/beryllium twice a day, just putting the pills on a piece of carrot or apple, and the nosode pills once a day.

The results - its been two weeks since I started him on the course, and so far the big one on his willy has dropped off completely not leaving any mark. The stalk one on his belly has partially dropped off, it's now a little dries nub. The only one I can feel is the one on his chest and it's hardened and feels more scab-like. I can't poke about round his sheath as he's very sensitive but the other ones also look like theyre drying out and certainly not getting any bigger!

If anyone's interested i'll keep you updated on progress. Ainsworths said for small sarcoids it should take effect in about a month. I'm hopeful so far! Of course it may just be nature taking effect and nothing to do with the homeopathy, but considering its so far cost only £12 I don't really mind having a punt on it!!

I'd be interested in an update. My mare had a sarcoid a few years ago and had it excised. No return or any new appearing, but I am now quite paranoid about checking. Be good to know if this regime worked, for any future problems. Thanks for sharing!
 
Hi smokey - well the thuja/beryllium remedy is to actually get rid of the sarcoid, but the nosode is more like a vaccine (at least it sounded that way to me, although Ainsworths said it wasn't!) and is supposed to boost the immune system against the virus - to help prevent reoccurrence. Really recommend speaking to Ainsworths as they spend plenty of time working out what you need.
 
I used thuja cream and tablets on my appy and it worked for him..

I know many people are, shall we say, unenthusiastic about using homeopathic treatments, but at the end of the day we used to chew tree bark for aspirin, poppies for pain relief and induced euphoria, belladonna for pupil dilatation and other functions, and many more other natural substances for clinical uses way before modern science came along..

So why not thuja.. Modern medicine had to start somewhere :)

They are all herbal remedies, not homeopathic. Major difference ;)

OP did you have any biopsies done to confirm sarcoids?
 
Can't edit on phone.. Still mean what I say if "herbal remedy" substitutes for "homeopathy"..

Suppose the name should give it away, thanks for the education..
 
i tried thuja cream and thuja tablets used simultaneously for my boy and they didnt make any difference at all :(

He has since has liverpool cream treatment and responded well.
 
Oh LD, he was so beautiful. It really sounds like PTS was the only option for him. You must be so heartbroken.

RIP to both of your foals. :(
 
Homeopathic remedies are water - nothing more, nothing less. The 'active ingredient' is so diluted that there is none of it left.

Herbal remedies do have something in them and some can be helpful in some conditions but you can bet for something as problematic as sarcoids the drug companies would isolate the active ingredient, patent it and sell it.

The other issue is that you cannot control the amount of any active ingredient in herbal supplements so getting the dose right is difficult. Not a problem with homeopathic remedies as they don't contain anything.

Also there have been cases of herbal supplements being adulterated - for example some Chinese weight loss herbs were found to be laced with a weiht loss drug that was effective but banned after it was found to cause heart problems.
