Hello, my vet has suggested radiation therapy for a sarciod on my mares eyelid. Is there anyone out there who has had their horse treated for a sarcoid using radiation? If so please could you let me know what the outcome was......good or bad!?!

I considered this option before but emailed Dr Knottenbelt at Leahurst hospital (liverpool University)who advised me against it. Hes the wrld leader on that stuff and well worth emailing. He sent me a very detailed and personal reply within 2 days! He came to lecture us at college last year too and was fantastic.
Dont forget to send him a few photos fo the sarcoids too though.

It's ages since we were at leahurst having a gelding treated for one right under his eye but they said the chances of using the radiotherapy are very slim, as rules prevent the handing out of much of the stuff anyway incase it got into the wrong hands.
I would ask your vet to send pics of the sarcoid to Derek Knottenbelt and see what he advises.
If they have the radiotherapy they have specific nursing in special boxes and you can't go in to them.
We have had a couple of horses treated for sarcoids near their eyes and all have disappeared with the Liverpool cream injected by our vet. the biggest expense is the sedation they need every time.
