Sarcoids anyone experienced them?

My mare had a flat sarcoid in exactly the area as yours. I used the red cream as prescribed by the vet, applying it every other day for 10 days. After that time the thing pretty much exploded; it was the most revolting sight & in the end the egg like root came out, leaving a large hole . It took months to heal and she was off work the whole time. Eventually it healed and never came back, that was 10 years ago and she's never had another one! 😊

I have been given a mare with a sarcoids right on the girth area. It was size of golf ball.

I have the brown cream to put on it daily for 7 days which was given to me with her and provided by vet. It dries up and then some skin falls off and scab leaving it bloody and fleshy and then it will dry up a bit more. It has also been banded. I do feel it's for smaller however not seeing that it looks like it will fall off yet.

How long do they normally take to fall off? After the 7 days do I get vet back out? Or give it a few weeks to see if it drops off?

The cream is 7 days tomorrow.

Thanks
My new mare has them, she has been treated by the vet and they are pleased with the progress. The pictures were sent to liverpool and the last check up of 2 weeks ago were positive. One on the inside hind leg, one by teats one between the front legs and one in the girth area and the last one on her face which has been the pain to treat as it is right on her muzzle. The vet has to do the cream 3 times a week and I had to do the one on her face with rubber gloves things are improving.

Her inside leg one still wont fall off yet, vet tried to pull but we are leaving it alone to come off

Her face one taken today just a black/ grey mark now

I've been battling with mixed sarcoids now for nearly 4 years. Every treatment has been tried with limited success, and that has included stuff like Sarc-X, toothpaste, turmeric, bloodroot, homoeopathic, banding, freezing, surgical removal, Liverpool cream. The only treatment that has had some success is the banding and Liverpool cream, until we started lasering them. He had 19 taken off by Prof Knottenbelt at Glasgow last October, and another two earlier last month. So far we have had over 80% success with only a couple that need watching, and one small one that has grown in the past couple of weeks.

Up until the work carried out last October we were being faced with him having to be pts this year, however, by catching them early (he has a check up at Glasgow every 6 months) we at last seem to be getting somewhere, and with luck my lovely home bred rising 7 year old may actual have a life ahead of him.

I think i'm going to down the route of trying some of the herbal and homeopathic remedies first but can i ask what people do with them as regards protecting them from flies. Since i got my mare on friday and finding them on saturday i have been applying carr and day citronella antibacterial salve to them to keep the flies off. They went from being hard and scaley to quite soft and then i'm washing them when she comes in with hibiscrub and plan to spray them with a fluoride mouthwash while she is stabled- and repeat process each day but not sure if that is too much messing about with them . They are not bleeding, they were just scaley cauliflower looking lumps. should i leave them alone with regards the salve and hibiscrub? I feel stupid for not seeing them before i bought her, my OH says i have munchausens over my furbabies and these are worrying me,

I'm treating for one at the moment with some herbal/homeopathic treatment using an extract called Thuja. It's early days so I'm not sure if it's having any effect but the offending sarcoid appears to have shrunk.
If it doesn't work I will reassess and may try something else, or leave well alone.

In what form are you giving the thuga and how much? Just googled it and seems to be worth a try, thanks

It's a two fold approach, he's having little tablets everyday twice a day (this will lessen as time goes on) and a cream applied to the area twice a day. Feel free to PM me if you want to discuss further. Results so far are good, it's reduced in size and appears to be shedding layers every couple of days.

We went the homeopathic route with our mare after sarcoids were noticed during her first clip. Thuja tablets were given first and several small black button type sarcoids fell of within a few days. After this the vet made up a "cleansing mixture" of granules especially for her type/temperament/age etc which we used for seven days and then we were given her actual anti sarcoid mix of granules which we gave her for several years, reducing the quanity over the years.
Only one sarcoid had to be removed and this was frozen off. The pony has never had any more sarcoids at all. This was a very non invasive manner to cure but there is no guarantee that it would work with another horse/pony.
Good luck with what ever course you take.

I treated a flat-type sarcoid with thuja - the cream and tablets and it did the trick - reduced and fell off in weeks. Then a nodule one appeared. Thuja had no effect on that. In the end vet banded it and it fell off - took a few months though. That was five years ago and haven;t had any back - yet.

Not sure if there are now EU restrictions in buying thuja?

I don't think there are any restrictions, i have ordered some cream and pills from ****** but another poster says you can get them from equus health aswell. The biggest sarcoid is 50 pence in size and there are two smaller ones so i'm hopeful this will work. many thanks for all suggestions and apologies for hijacking someone else's post x

Mine had several sarcoids when I bought him. I used Global Herbs Sarc Ex but had the best results when I put him on Immuplus from Global Herbs. He had had four homes in the year I bought him, dealers and private owners - he was 4 when I bought him and he is 11 now. We have had no sarcoids in several years, getting his immune system rebooted and putting him on a proper mineral supplement - not a commercial one - and we are absolutely fine. No sarcoids and a better disposition!! I had tried lots of topical supplements which didn't shift them, but once his immune system kicked in with the help of the Global Herbs he got rid of them

I,ve tried everything - Liverpool cream expensive and had to be repeated. Won't use again as obviously painful and ulceration was disgusting !
