sarcoids - laser removal

Yes I used my vets who have the specialist equipment on hire from time to time. It was only done in February so I'm hoping it has been successful! The laser leaves small deep wounds which are only just fully healing but the pony was fine after a couple of weeks. I wanted it done before fly time. These were on his sheath and belly.
 
My ex-racer had 2 removed - one from just in front of his sheath (hence could not use cream) and the other was the size of a petit-pois from his girth area. The one near his sheath looked horrendous - I cried when I saw it as it was an open oozing wound (it was a fairly big one). The one near his girth kept opening up as he would prat about in the field. Took 4 months to properly heal so that he could wear tack again.

It was done 2 years ago in February. Have just found another one on the inside of a hind leg. I wont be treating it again; because of the location I think he would need laser surgery (cream would probably rub off). I will get the vet to confirm, but it is now/approaching fly season so if I was to get it removed it would be in winter.

The latter two could have just as easily been done with rubber ring/freezing - but as the ear needed special reatment, it made sense to do them all together. They were done under sedation and are already looking good!

A member of my staff has a horse that has been PLAGUED - he had a big one right next to the eye - treated with BCG to which he had a bad reaction (and the sarcoid stayed.) And his belly and sheath are plastered in the damn things. Jeremy will be doing him - under GA. It's expensive when they need to be done under GA. Jeremy specialises in the laser treatment and travels all round the country - I was very impressed with him.
 
Twice by professor Dixon at the Dick .
And three times by my own vet.
All under sedation .
One has had a little issue with scar tissue after but is resolving .
It's the way forward I think.

I forgot to add, I used Jeremy as well. He was really good - went over my boy with a fine tooth comb and rang me to tell me about the one on the girth (no-one had picked up on that, we thought he just had the one). Explained everything on the phone, and he did it at my local vets so horse didn't have to travel too far.
 
My boy had a large and nasty fly infected one his belly (e.g. Swollen, crusty, bleeding and oozing pus) near his sheath which was treated twice unsuccessfully by banding by the local vet.
We had it removed by laser in December 2012 and it has healed beautifully and there is no mark or scar visible and the post treatment lump has all but disappeared (although it took nearly twelve months for it to do so). The hair has grown back completely leaving no evidence of any problem.
The vet is very happy with the results but advised me to keep an eye on it and the surrounding areas in case any other sarcoids appear. Thankfully nothing to date.
Be warned thought the site is very raw and horrible to look at after the laser treatment as it leaves considerable burn marks plus the area is quite tender and prone for infection post treatment. Therefore best to get it done in winter when the flies won't pose a problem.
I had my horse treated at Rossdales in Newmarket (they also did his tie back and hobday at the same time). First class care and can't recommend them highly enough.
 
I had about 8 removed back in December 2012 from my horses sheath and back leg area by the shelf equine centre in Halifax .

They could not do them all in one sitting as there was more than this however the ones they didn't manage to do happily disappeared and dropped of by themselves . It does look very sore to begin with but also heals very quickly.
 
Following this thread.

My youngster had the Liverpool Cream on a crop of sarcoids in February. Some have responded and the scabs have fallen off, but some look like they haven't quite gone. Another near his girth looks like it has developed either proud flesh or a new nodular sarcoid.

Poor horse has them between his back legs, around his sheath, between and on his upper forelegs, and on his neck. In fact he seems to be developing a fresh crop on his neck.

To say I am devestated is an understatement. I really found it had during his treatment (4 doses) because his mum had had them at the same age and I knew what was coming. With her, they all went and never came back. With him it looks a different story.

I'm sure I read somewhere that there was a new treatment for sarcoids due to be released next year. I hope I didn't dream it :-(
 
We had our horse done 2 days ago with Jeremy. Very professional service & liason after 3 hour op under GA. Be prepared wounds look horrific. Good idea to visit his website to look at detailed photos. Hoping it will be a success. Due to amount & severity of wounds probably be on 6wks box rest to allow heal before bring slowly back into work. Keep you posted!!
