Sarcoids to treat or not to...

My horse has had some sarcoids successfully lasered off, these have not returned. He has one open one which needs to be done too. He has various others under the skin or very small on his sheath. None of which are causing and issue. The vet wants to remove them all at once. This isn't under my insurance so will cost a bomb. Would you remove all or just the one that needs to be done? None are anywhere near tack. He is four so I am expecting to spend a fortune on this over his life. It is just whether this is logical at this stage if some may not develop? Thank you!

Since you're paying, then if you can afford it, take the vet's advice. Because if you don't, and it becomes an issue later, you'll feel a plonker and they will be unimpressed.
If you can't really afford it, I'd think about whether you've ever seen them showing signs of being active, how quickly they appeared, and how previous ones have behaved, and act accordingly.
A youngster may well beat these on their own once their immune system develops... or they may not. Dormant ones may stay dormant - or they may not. Every case seems to be different.
(I speak with way more experience of sarcoids than I'd ever wish on anyone.)

Thank you. I was quite happy to pay for them all it just struck me today that maybe they all didn't need to come off. I will ask the vet if they need to they can. Its a fortune either way.

I would ask your vet to take pics and send them to Prof. knott for a second opinion and advice on what to do. That is what happened in my case, the vet was wrong in his initial diagnosis (even though he is a brilliant vet and realised the importance of making sure with Prof. K.)
Both the vet and and myself were very pleased he took advice.

Thank you I will mention that. I don't mind removing them all if it is the best thing but there are about 10 it seems a lot when some of them are really tiny.

Have you tried boosting his immune system first? I’m hearing great things about Radiance Gold (will openly admit I know the owner of the brand) - I might be tempted to try that or something similar and then consider lasering/ vet treatment if it doesn’t help?

I hadn't thought of that to be honest. One of them is huge and horrid so that needs to go. I will chase up the vets again today and try to find out what is going on.

Go to the Facebook page called sarcoid cure. There are also places that do herbs and stuff to boost the immune system. I’ve seen the results of the sarcoid cure page first hand.

Hmmm … the angry one def needs to go. But I personally probably wouldn’t jump in and treat the others yet. But I agree I’d want to try and boost immune system if possible. Also, is your horse chilled/relaxed? Stress won’t help so keep that in mind.

So laid back he is horizontal. It is such a shame really that this particular one got angry. It was more that he kept knocking the top off it. None of the others have even broken the skin. The ones we have removed haven't come back in over a year. Hes been turned away and come back super fat so we are addressing that and hes not been fed but we could certainly give him a handful of something and try a supplement.
