Would you buy a horse with sarcoids that is responding to homeopathic treatment - or would you leave well alone

Any information on sarcoids greatly appreciated. Seller is 100% reputable and honest. I am just worried that I may be buying potential problems

I would not want to buy one that has them that have been treated conventionally at all......
 
i personally would not buy one with them, i looked at a perfect horse that had a big one in a crease at the top of its back leg my vet said that as we wanted it for jumping she would fail the vetting. it does depend what you want the horse for
 
i have just bought one, had it 5 stage vetted and a week later i've discovered a sarcoid. i fully believe it was there when he was vetted and i most likely wouldn't have bought him if i'd known about it - now i have the fun job of trying to get some compensation from the vets about it. i'm about to start treatment with liverpool cream on it - i'm not messing about with any herbal creams or tablets or supplements - he's getting the top recommended treatment and i hope i can get rid of it quickly and he doesn't get any more.
 
my old palomino pony had one on his neck vet told me to get wart cream from the doctor to put on it and it worked. i personally would buy one with a sarcoid as i showjump and at the end of a day a good horse isn't always the best looking one. but if your showing the maybe not.
 
I bought my horse with a sarcoid - however I had known him for some years previously. It's on the front of his sheath and has never bothered him. He has had various treatments such as liverpool cream etc and it has always come back. It usually shrinks in the winter but in summer can get quite red but this is mainly due to flies. In the summer, I always cover it in Camrosa which keeps the flies off and also helps it shrink.
 
My horse has sarcoids and I wouldn't be without her no matter what. But I would never buy a horse with sarcoids again if just because of the worry of where they are next going to appear.

I have to agree, my mare is otherwise a sound and healthy horse, but I would never buy one with this prolem as they are a constant worry.
 
not entirely true! i've just been speaking to Derek Knottenbelt about the sarcoid I've discovered on my horse and saying I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known about it. He said sarcoids can be the least of worrysome things to find and he wishes his wife's horse had one rather than all the other problems it has!
 
One of my shetties has one - not re\lly visible as between her front legs, we were considering getting it removed, but asked a few 'showing' people, who all said that the judge should not take it into consideration when judging

but if she was covered in them i expect they would...
My section D had one for years, until aty some point klast summer i decided to check if it had grown, to find it had dissapeared

Does te livepool cream work?
 
I have used the liverpool cream on my mare. She had a little scabby one pop up every winter and disappear every summer (rugs I think!) then this huge one dropped out of her tummy, bleeding profusly, vet pulled it off and used the cream, disappeared and nothing back. One on her girth like a pea, used the cream and it hasn't come back. The one on her side disappeared of its own accord and hasn't been back. All done and dusted in 6months!

When used properly the cream works brilliantly. I think you have to catch the sarcoids early for it to be totally successful, my friend mare had loads before they tried the cream, so was a longer process. Isan't cheap but not mega bucks, so certainly reduction in price to cover treatment.

It is one of the best options available but does not always work, my mare had 1 treated as a four year old, it went but came back a few years later along with many others, she was treated again about 2 years ago and this time the cream had no effect what so ever. She is however now classed a worse case scenario.
 
I have also just put this on another thread - Hi, I once owned a mare that was the best horse I could ever dream to own. She was imported from France a selle francis. When I brought her at 5 she did not have a blemish on her. One year later a small sacroid appeared on her tummy. My vet advised me to leave it alone as sometimes messing around with them could possible make it worse, plus it did not bother her or caused any problems. Well over time a few more appeared on her hind legs and tummy. The vet tried to freeze some off, to which made it worse. We then tried the liverpool treatment cream, which I had to sign a disclaimer. My mare had side effects which was awful and the cream did not work. I spent well over £1k and had a lot of heartache At 9 years old and with advice of second vet I had to have my mare put down. This broke my heart and I have never got over losing this fantastic horse, Hence the tears rolling down my cheeks as I write this! I never regret buying that mare as she gave me the best rides ever and was my best friend. BUT I would never buy a horse that I knew had a sarcoid. I know many have them and are fine, but I would never want anyone to go through what I did. This is the worst case that can happen, but it does and can happen!
 
My boy has one and it doesn't bother me or him. However i would expect a big price reduction. Also beware of the 'liverpool cream' it can sometimes do more damage than good!
