Went to see a horse today, it was useless for us, whilst we were there they had another horse, absoloutely gorgeous, a bit younger than we were looking (6yrs) but sane and jumped and flatworked, considering taking it xc. But, he has two sarcoids, on the inside of his left hing and front leg. Would this affect you wanting to buy him?

Didn't stop me either, I had one removed from my gelding which was on the girth area and another on the sheath I have left alone. It hasn't changed in 5 years.

Sarcoids are totally unpredictable. I bought a horse with them and don't regret it but they can go either way. We treated successfully with liverpool cream, but she has grown another one since. I might not have got mine if her sarcoids had been anywhere that could have interfered with tack.

Look into the subject of sarcoids. There are a lot of different types, some are easy to live with, others are very nasty. There are almost as many reactions to them as there are types from acceptance to rejection. I'd do some research.

It wont pass a vetting and if you declare them insurance wont pay for treatment if they get worse so price of horse should reflect that.

it didnt bother me my youngster has three inbetween his back legs, they have not caused a prob as yet(two yrs down the line)im aware that they could go either way but he is so lovely i took the chance,i told the insurance and he is excluded from treatment for them but i got £300 knocked of the purchase price so im not really bothered.there are lots of people that would say not to buy but if the horse is right for you go for it!!

they bother me. i just bought a horse with one that wasn't seen on vetting so excluded from insurance. just cost me a few hundred to get Liverpool cream for it - not sure if treatment has worked yet. he's only 6 - potential for him to grow more. he has plenty of other issues - if i'd known about the sarcoid i wouldn't have bought him.

I bought my 2 year old mare unseen and she had a sarcoid on the side of her face on the jaw bone.

I got some cream from the vet, not sure what it was as it was in a tub with "sarcoid cream" written on it and a week later it has gone. It only cost me £16.00 too, far cheaper than the liverpool cream.

It wouldnt put me off in future.
