Sarcoids.

How many does it have and where are they?

To be honest, no I probably wouldn't... The price would have to reflect it.

Why don't you have it removed? Are you desperate to sell asap?

He has one under his belly. The price does reflect it. I am not desperate to sell. Tests have gone to an expert and I think he will prescribe a cream. I am researching this at the moment. The vet said she will need to administer it so it must be a highly toxic substance.

It's Liverpool Cream, it's only licensed for vets to apply.

If you'd already had it treated, I expect a buyer would be more interested. From their point of view it's a pre-existing condition so their insurance wouldn't pay for treatment.

It usually takes 6 weeks ish for them to fall off if you can wait, then it needs to heal. So if you wanted it to completely go you're in for a wait.

I bought one without knowing, if i had of known i may not have bothered. The cream you are talking about is very toxic and has to be applied every day for a week so is very expensive when you are paying call out fee every day luckily my insurance paid for this. It didn't leave much of a scar but my horse was right up in his hind leg and don't know whether she was suppose to protect the other leg or not but she didn't and that patch of skin did peel and come away aswell.

My other advice would be to get a fly rug to prevent flys from getting on it as they do get very painful.

When i was selling mine some people foud it a real issue others didn't seem to mine at all saying that though i still have him and am desperate to sell him.

Good luck i am sure you will find him a nice home, how old is he?

I bought a horse with sarcoids. Have had him 8 years now with no ill effect. He already had an exclusion on the insurance policy but we've had no need to treat them as they haven't changed in size, shape, location or anything.

So yes, given the experience I've had, I would probably buy another horse with sarcoids (provided I knew that either the price reflected the issue or that they had been as they were for several years)

No, but mine got one - as I have said - and it went. We have horses now who might have had them as a 3yo for them to spontaneously resolve and never come back. They are very tricky things. I wouldn't buy an older horse with them because to me (in my mind only) it would indicate a less than tip-top immune system.
