My boy has a large sarcoid on his flank which i am going to have removed by the vet. He has had it since i bought him three years ago but it has suddenly ballooned in size over the winter period  it seemed that one day it wasn't there and the next it was! I was wondering whether anyone else has had the same problem and whether you managed to get rid of them.

The fact that it has suddenly started to grow is a warning - do NOT attempt to muck about with it! And do NOT allow your vet to excise it! You want photos sent to Prof Knottenbelt for advice on the best treatment!

I'd not mess until it's been seen by an expert given the sudden growth. Saying that, I don't see that thuga pills could harm. I used Liverpool cream very successfully but obviously with full vet consultations.

Sarcoid on chest - there from about 2 years old - vet advised to leave well alone which I did - at age 5 (two summers ago) it suddenly changed. I tried the Thuja cream and tablets initially but if anything that made it worse. Anyway with professional help it was photographed and advice sought from Liverpool - cream arrived was applied by the professional. It didn't get it all first time though, a second application was made and now it has gone, thankfully - it really wasn't a nice process, so glad it is over (for my poor horse's sake). Also because I knew it had been there for 3 years I was unable to claim anything on the insurance - in fact I didn't even both asking them, so if you want to claim - treat (properly) sooner rather than later. Good luck.

i used Liverpool successfully one 1 of my horses that had sarcoids (with vet advice obvs) and they dissappeared - did not come back but did leave small scarring/discolouration around the sheath

110% totally this advice. Don't mess, go straight to the experts with this, they can be truly horrible things so don't risk making it worse by doing anything at all other than what Liverpool recommend.

Agree with a referral to Prof K @ Liverpool, would never muck about with them. The boy has one on his eye that we had to do a bioposy on (to check it) and it has grown huge since. He's getting radiation treatment in liverpool for his as we speak :)

This started off the size of a small thumbnail until it had the Liverpool treatmentthen it grew into this, never again.

No treatment has a 100% success rate. As it stands Liverpool's cream has the best success rate of any available treatment. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, but for most sarcoids it gives the best chance of recovery.

Thought i'd post some before & after pictures of my boys Sarcoids. Treatment started Sept'10 following pictures to vet & advice from Prof K.

couldn't afford Irridium wire treatment so went down the chemotherapy injection route as per Prof K.

First set of pictures are of how they were in August 2010 & are the same photos that i sent to my vet.

second set of photos were taken November 2010. His treatment had finished by then & we were waiting to see what happened...

The next photo was taken in January 2011 & shows how the area is getting better - the hair is growing back white though

Hope this is of interest & maybe a help to others going through Sarcoid hell with their horses

I have left my boys sarcoid well alone and have not had the vet out to look at as i was first intending to do and have now noticed that it has started to shrink again. This isn't the first time his sarcoid has grown and then shrunk again though as it happened last year and the year previous to that. I have noticed a bit of pattern where it grows over the winter and then shrinks again when the weather starts to improve. Anyone else had this experiance?
