My mare has a small sarcoid inside her near fore elbow. Not causing any problems at present but wondered if anyone can recommend any treatments? Have spoken with my vet and she has told me lots of different options and has said to take a photo and keep comparing and to treat it if it becomes larger. She also recommended treating it during the winter months so my horses is not bothered by flies.

Have been doing lots of research and wondered if anyone can comment on Sarc ex, or any herbal creams?

Any assistance much appreciated.
 
Sorry cant really help on what to treat or feed horse with. But all I can say is follow your vets advice.
My horse had a nodular sarcoid. It was a free floating lump on her inner thigh. He said to take pics and compare all summer. It grew from a pea to baked bean sized over the summer so asked the vet to remove it in winter before it got entagled in the vein. He said it was the right thing to so. So 2 vets came to my yard last week cause she was due to get a liver biopsy and they removed the sarcoid at the same time. It was like shelling a pea and it just popped out once the skin was cut. It looked like a lump of rolled up chewing gum. The vet out helping said removal was right as the nodular ones have a tendancy to keep growing.

i didnt have any faith in homeopathy products but ive been using Thuja cream and Thuja drops in his food (twice a day) and the top layer dropped off last week. it is now smaller and looks cleaner and im hoping it will clear up completly. so it must be working
 
if it is a singular sarcoid and your horse doesnt have any more I dont think the vet will want to remove it - just to monitor it.

In this instant you could try Sarc-ex while you are monitoring it, you never know it might help.

My gelding is currently undergoing liverpool cream treatment for his sarcoids but he had over 20 in total in several locations, hense why i chose to treat aggressively.

nb - i tried the thuja cream and thuja tablets but they didnt make any difference sadly :(

I had brilliant results with Thuja tablets. I did alot of research and also bought Tim Couzens book Homeopathy for Horses. You need to have an open mind to this form of treatment and not everyone agrees with this way of dealing with sarcoids.
 
i tried thuja as my first port of call as i do believe in the powers of plants/herbs etc and use a variety of essential oils and herbal suppliments for Chico. However for him the thuja just didnt work.

Bizarely i found that antiseptic fly gel really helped the sarcoids on his stomach but only by reducing size, didnt get rid of them completely.

My vet offered me the blood root ointment too but i decided to go for the liverpool cream as i know it gives very very good results. Yes it isnt pleasant but in this case it is short term pain for long term gain - Chico will thank me next summer when the flies arent all over him.
 
Hi, my mare had a sarcoid on her girth a few years ago, she had it removed surgically but it grew back within a year. We then used Liverpool cream, as long as you make sure the cream only goes on the sarcoid it didn't bother my mare at all. It has been completely successful and approximately 5 years on she has no sign of regrowth.:D

Couldn't agree more. My horse had three, one at point of elbow, one on his chest and one on the point where his tummy meets his hind leg. My vet took photos, sent them to Prof Knottenbelt at Liverpool, and my horse was treated with Liverpool cream to his instructions Sept/Oct 2010. Results have been brilliant so far, so re-occurence and skin is smooth and healthy
 
I had a horse with a sarcoid under its belly. I had a Homeopathic vet take a look and she prescribed a treatment. After a couple of weeks the sarcoid dropped out, you could see the hole where it had been. Never had any problems afterwards. Have had good results with other homeopathic treatments as well.
 
Brill results with sarc-ex. Got rid of my mares few isolated ones of varying types (some under the skin, some wart like ones), also improved her overall skin condition & helped with her food allergy that bought her out in a rash!

Now trying it on one of my youngsters & it seems to be drying it out.

I was the ultimate cynic, but am converted 100%, I almost hugged the sales rep at YHL lol....

I was hesitant to go down the surgery/liverpool cream route as she has very sensitive arab skin & wouldn't cope. If it hadn't have worked, I may have given thuja a bash, then considered surgery.

I decided to use Power against Sarcoids powder in conjunction with Thuja Cream and Thuja tincture and taking photos weekly.

There is a noticeable reduction in size already.

I will keep you posted.
 
Amazing how high the incidence of Sarcoids is,in a wide range of horses too.You Could try Sarc x.Have used this myself to good effect.However,bear in mind that responses to any treatment is idiosyncratic.Good luck.
