Hi, never had a horse with these before - do they look like sarcoids?

If so are they treated by a vet or is there anything over the counter etc?

3 of these around his elbows/girth area/stomach

1 of them is in the middle of his sternum which may be getting rubbed by the girth - could use sheepskin which might help

Thanks :)

I would advise a vet to come out - they very much look like sarcoids, but there is also a plethora of things they could also be eg: the above.
If they are diagnosed sarcoids do a search on here and there are many threads with many options for treatments and their evaluation

How long they been there?

They look a bit like bites mine get them near elbows and middle of sternum where there isn't much hair.
I’ll be honest I haven’t noticed them until yesterday.
I guess I could keep an eye on them over a week and see if they clear.
He has a VERY fine coat and thin skin so could be from bites, he often comes out in bumps from flies etc.

Both my Arab's get bites in those areas and they look just like that I will see if they have any and post a picture.

I use hydrocortisone cream on them or the hedgewich soothing gel.
I’ll get some of that and keep a close eye on them, if they don’t improve over the next week I’ll get in touch with the vets.
Thanks for the help!! :)

My money’s on fly bites too, and I’ve too much experience of sarcoids 😬.

My senior mare pops up fly bite reactions like those. She’s never had a sarcoid, though her daughter was very prone.

This first lesion came up on her overnight last night and I only found it this morning. The scab came off and I’ve bathed it with sterile saline and applied blue spray to dry it off. The second pic is of a healing similar one.

Treat them as fly bites for now. If they get bigger and/or won’t heal, then it’s time to get the vet out.

Good luck.

mine has a bunch of bites on him lately and one looks similar to what pinkvboots has posted (in the same place too). I noticed it the other day and some of his sarcoids that he has had in the past has looked similar. I've done a feed change so am keeping my eyeballs out as that's what started the sarcoid issue to begin with but *knock on wood* since feeding oily herbs mine has kept them at bay quite well (he's still on them).
