I'd be grateful for any tips on this as I haven't experienced it before, and Dr Google is scaring me silly :(

My 13yo TB event mare slipped on the concrete at home about a month ago, and has been stiff behind ever since.... Unfortunately she had a bit of mastitis just afterwards, and so we treated for that with antibiotics rather than looking into the stiffness any further.

I had the physio out for her last week due to her stiffness, who suggested her reactions around the top of her hindquarters were extreme, and advised a return vet visit which was this morning...

He agreed she was sound, but stiff behind, and did flexions (1 lame step on left, 2 on right) and rectal examination which confirmed a sarcoiliac injury.. He injected the joint/ligament with steroid, and advised field rest (she box walks when in) for 2 months and reassessment.

I didn't ask him anything else though and rather regretting it now.

Dr Google is v pessimistic, does anyone have positive stories???

I am currently dealing with a similar injury, mine is chronic due to being missed when he had other things going on, he was 2/10ths lame off hind, it is basically on just the one side, prognosis poor from my vet they hope he may be sound enough to hack but the treatment has been very different, mine had injections 3 weeks ago, had 2 days box rest 2 days restricted turnout then started walking under saddle on day 6, he has now been walking for up to 45mins each day trying to encourage him to stretch and use his back, it is all out hacking no exercise in the school under saddle.
The ridden exercise is combined with a fairly intensive physio regime, he is stretched, massaged and strapped once or twice every day plus doing some in hand work walking over raised poles, my physio has done one treatment since the injections and is back next week to reassess and see how we are progressing, I expect her to be coming out rather a lot over the next few months as well as doing as much as I can myself under her instructions.
He is on turmeric in the hope that it may help, it cant do any harm, if the injections do not work, he has improved already so we may get there, acupuncture seems to be the next step which has been suggested by posters on here and my physio believes it to be a useful treatment which can really help.

So not a very positive story but I am trying to remain at least hopeful, it is worth throwing everything I can at him as he is only 10, I would have thought yours with it only being a month ago should be more hopeful for a good outcome.

Yes mine was diagnosed with a sacroiliac injury back in March. He was just slightly lame on right hind. Not sure how injury occurred. He was injected both sides, then worked on a slow rehab program till June when he was reassessed and injected again. He had a work up today and is now totally sound!

That is great news, is he going to be able to jump and lead a totally normal life or are you having to restrict your plans for him??

Yea signed off for normal work although we only ever jump small anyway, logs on hacks, that type of thing. He has also had ulcers so there was a bit of a cross over with symptoms but he has had full lameness work up today and vet said he looks best he has ever seen him. Think very gradual reintroduction to work has benefitted him.
