Does anyone have a recommendation for a sat nav that can be configured to plot sensible routes for large vehicles? I only have a 3.5 ton horsebox but after my ancient TomTom took me through a rabbit's warren of tiny residential streets over speed bumps and between double parked cars AGAIN (presumably to save around 10 yards in a 100 mile journey) I want to buy something that allows me to specify the type and weight of vehicle and/or gives much better customization of preferences.

I use an app called CoPilot. It can be configured to a great extent and gives alternatives for any route. Has worked perfectly for over a year now and not got me lost.

Thanks for mentioning CoPilot PaddyMonty but I would prefer a dedicated sat nav rather than an app on a phone.

I have one called pronav. You can programme in weight and dimensions and it keeps you away from unsuitable routes.

Bought it a few years and it was reasonably cheap as it was secondhand reconditioned.

Just to piggy-back onto this question - I also have 3.5t box, and I'm less worried about narrow roads (it'll usually fit), but I would love to find a satnav that calculates its route based on how windy/how many roundabouts the route has, vs. a fairly straight shot (more comfortable for horses). Anybody know of a satnav or app that gives those options?

It was a few years back but I used the Snooper Truckmate. They aren't cheap but you can programme lots of stuff into it and it picks the route off that. Lots of features although more aimed at the commercial/larger van market. Garmin and TomTom also do truck/HGV versions which seem to have similar features.

I know what you mean about frustrating routes - I have a 3.5t and use the standard google map app which most of the time is fine but it does send you down some tight country roads and excessive roundabout routes, which actually turn out to be slower in the lorry than if I went another way.
